Fallen Leaves

Fallen Leaves

maybe my feelings are inflated purely because this is my first kaurismäki in theaters (and like bresson the cumulative effect of his lowkey approach to drama really is made for an uninterrupted viewing experience) but i loved this so much. alma’s wink at the end made me cry a bit. i was thinking a lot about the truffautism that the best moments in film are when sad things can also be funny and my favorite kaurismäki films do that (SHADOWS IN PARADISE comes to mind especially). there’s wasted milk and dogs aren’t wanted and there’s always a war on. but there’s also music and sharing silence with someone and zombie movies.
