2021 Ranked

Really, really dug this. It’s so breathtakingly stupid, they play Kong as literally just some guy and it rules. It’s the first one of these that didn’t feel like it was aiming any higher than its wheelhouse and was the better for it.

Wizened, tired ass Kong is seriously so fucking good. I’ve been a Godzilla guy my whole life but Kong is *the* star here. Whatta guy. The hollow earth, Kong on the throne shit was cool as hell, give me more of that.

I’ve accepted that these are never gonna be as good as the Japanese films but this is maybe the first one that almost gets the weird physics and weight of those down. A delightful blend of late Showa and Millennium era Godzilla.
