Locations[1] of ongoing conflicts around the world, January 2014
Major wars and civil unrest, 1,000+ deaths per year
Minor skirmishes and conflicts, fewer than 1000 deaths per year

The following is a list of ongoing armed conflicts that are taking place around the world and which continue to result in violent deaths. This list is for the sole purpose of identifying present-day conflicts and the death toll associated with each conflict. Note:

  • Fatality figures include both civilian and military deaths unless otherwise indicated.
  • Military conflicts which no longer produce violent deaths (through the last year) are not listed here, but can be found in the historical list of wars and the list of wars extended by diplomatic irregularity.
  • Fatality totals may be underestimated or unavailable due to a lack of information. A figure with a plus sign (e.g. 455+) indicates that at least 455 people have died - the actual toll could be considerably higher.
  • Only states with ongoing military activity are listed, past states and states where conflicts are no longer active are omitted.

1,000+ deaths per year

Conflicts in the following list are currently causing at least 1000 violent deaths per year, a categorization used by the Uppsala Conflict Data Program[2] and recognised by the United Nations.[3][4]
