Anderson attended Ashtabula Area City Schools and graduated from Ashtabula Senior High (Lakeside High School) in 1987.

On December 1, 1987, Anderson enlisted in the U.S. Army. After basic, advanced, and airborne training, he was assigned as a Criminal Investigator (United States Army Military Police Corps) and a member of the U.S. Army Drug Suppression Team.

After his service in the Army, Anderson attended and graduated from Brevard Community College and majored in Organizational Behavior at Rollins College.

Professional career

Anderson's experience in the private sector includes over 20 Years executive managerial experience related to project management, business administration and business operations. Andy has worked for Johnson Controls, Harley-Davidson, and has owned two successful small businesses.

Political career

Anderson, who was not actively involved in local politics, decided to run for Brevard County School Board in 2002. He had been angered by an incident with his oldest child, Christian. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact the elected School Board Member representing his area, Anderson filed for election to oppose the incumbent. With no past political experience or campaign knowledge, his only goal was to get the School Board Members attention. Anderson was defeated in a three way contest, earning 25.35% of the vote.[2]

In 2003, Anderson was asked by a group of business leaders and elected officials to seek election to a vacant City Council seat in the City of Palm Bay, Florida. Anderson entered the special election, along with six other candidates. Anderson lead the field by 2 votes out of a total of 7,083 cast, triggering a mandatory ballot recount. On April 30, 2003, Anderson was declared the winner after the recount, picking up an additional vote to bring his lead to 3.[3] Anderson served on the Palm Bay City Council until November 2007.

On November 4th, 2008, Anderson was elected to the Brevard County Commission, District 5.[4] Anderson subsequently sought reelection in 2012, and was elected without opposition.[5]

On November 27, 2012, Anderson was selected by his fellow Commissioners to serve as Chairman of the Brevard County Commission.[6]
