Alycia Lane (born May 10, 1972) co-anchors the weekday 6 P.M. and 11 P.M. newscast on KYW-TV in Philadelphia. She is an emmy award winning journalist who joined the station in September of 2003 from WTVJ in Miami, where she was the weekend anchor. She also hosts a weekly segment on the 4 P.M. news entitled "A Woman's View."

Background

Lane is of Puerto Rican descent on her mother's side and Welsh descent on her father's. She is a native of Long Island, New York. She has a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, and undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Albany where she graduated with honors. She is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and speaks fluent Spanish.

Other minority women in the Philadelphia market include WPVI's Lisa Thomas-Laury, the first African-American woman anchor, and WCAU's Renee Chenault-Fattah. In Lane and Chenault-Fattah, both KYW-TV and WCAU-TV offer female minority co-anchors opposite solo anchor Jim Gardner on WPVI. In June 2006 Lane signed a six-year deal to remain with the station.

Controversy

In May 2007, Lane became the center of a national media story, when reports surfaced that Lane emailed pictures of herself and friends in a bikini to Rich Eisen to an account that he shared with his wife, Suzy Shuster.[1] Shuster's email response became public, [2] [3] but Lane insisted that the picture were harmless[4] and that she and Eisen have been "purely platonic" friends "for almost 10 years", and that they "regularly exchange e-mail and photos."[5]

Arrest

Lane was also arrested on December 16, 2007 in New York City, accused of punching a female police officer in the face. Police say she was charged with assault with intent to cause physical injury to an officer. [6] Lane allegedly spewed homophobic remarks to a female police officer involved in the incident. The police report stated that Lane shouted at the officer, "I don't care that you're a cop - dyke bitch!"[7] .[1]
