Anita Dupree is a fictional character from the American CBS soap opera, Beyond the Gates, played by Tamara Tunie.
Development
Creation and casting
The casting notice was one of the first four castings reported in the summer of 2024.[1] Anita Dupree is one of the original 15 characters written by series creator, Michele Val Jean. Anita is a member of the first family of Beyond the Gates, the Dupree family. Anita's original character outline was released in July 2024, during the casting process:
a Black female in her late 60s to 70s. She is a family matriarch. [―] A famous singer, Betty did not find success easily. She is proud to have raised two daughters with her iconic retired Senator husband. While she’s a doting mother, Betty is not someone who should be crossed.[1]
On September 19, 2024, TV Insider announced the Tunie's casting.[2]
