Springfield, Ohio, cat-eating hoax After the debate, Trump and Vance continued to promote the story of Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield. As of September 25, 2024, over thirty bomb threats have been made to public buildings in Springfield causing several closures. In addition to the bomb threats, the mayor of Springfield, Rob Rue, has received death threats. [1][2]

On September 24, the executive director of the Haitian Bridge Alliance filed a bench memorandum and affidavit at the Clark County Municipal Court, alleging that Trump and Vance had committed multiple crimes by promoting the story, including "disrupting public services, making false alarms, two counts of complicity, two counts of telecommunications harassment and aggravated menacing", and asked the court to issue arrest warrants.[1][3]
