Development

Quantic Dream CEO David Cage announced the title at Sony's press conference during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012. A debut trailer featuring in-game graphics was released during the press conference. Unlike Quantic Dream's previous game Heavy Rain, which supported the PlayStation Move, Beyond: Two Souls will not be PlayStation Move compatible.[4] Actress Ellen Page noted that the script for the game is around 2000 pages long.[5]

It will be the final soundtrack of composer Normand Corbeil, who died of pancreatic cancer on 25 January 2013.[6] Composer Lorne Balfe, who composed the soundtrack for Assassin's Creed III, replaced Corbeil as the game's composer, after Corbeil's death.[7]

On 27 April 2013, a new trailer released, and 35 minutes of the game was screened at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival with both Page and Cage in attendance. This marks the second time a video game has ever been recognized by the film festival, the first time being 2011's L.A. Noire.[8]

Plot

The game, which features psychological, spiritual and thriller elements, is centered around questions about what happens after death. The game lets the player take Jodie Holmes through 15 years of her life (ages 8 through 23) on a journey to discover the true meaning of the entity Aiden, who has been alongside her throughout her life. The game's producer noted that players might be able to find out "what lies beyond" after playing it.

Characters

Jodie Holmes (Ellen Page)
Jodie is the main character
Aiden
Aiden is a supernatural entity that has been linked to Jodie since a young age. Not much is known about Aiden, other than that Jodie is the only person able to communicate with it.

Cole Freeman (Kadeem Hardison)
U.S. government official who investigates paranormal activity.

Eric Winter has also been cast in a yet unspecified role.

Release

GameStop will release exclusive downloadable content (DLC) of an additional 30-minute scene for those who pre-order the game. Also available while supplies last is a "special edition" which comes in steelbook packaging and includes various bonus features.[1]
