Welcome back; we've missed you (as I'm sure you've noticed), even though some of us (*cough* me *cough*) have not explicitly demonstrated it. Wishing you much joy, peace, and health, your most humble servant, Agüeybaná00:55, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thank you all :) Keilana, you should be glad I missed that, lol. Thank you for your emails, they cheered me up when I read them! And Squid Guy, always wonderful to hear from you, as well as you, Rocket :) (And a big hug for R, too!) Ariel♥Gold15:22, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ariel, I saw you on the adopters' page, and that you were willing to give an opinion on space-related issues. I have just added a lead section to the article on Interpretations of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is in a pitiable state. IMHO, of course. I had tried earlier to do something about the Interpretation on the 2001 movie article, but was instantly reverted by two editors for OR and unsourced material. The new paragraphs are more acceptable I hope, but I wonder if you could look at them, and at my justification on the article talk pages. All I really want to say is that Clarke's book really cannot be ignored when seriously interpreting the movie. Thanks! Wwheaton (talk) 10:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Wwheaton, unfortunately, I've neither read the book, nor seen the movie, so I'd probably be unable to offer any kind of input. My areas of interest are in Human Spaceflight, not in fiction, I'm sorry to say. The best I can offer is that the issue of original research is a valid one. While you may have interpretations, without reliable sources to verify the interpretations, they become personal opinions, and aren't encyclopedic. The best thing to do is to find books, or reliable news/media articles that discuss various interpretations, and use those as sources to explain the known interpretations that are out there, citing the sources, and not adding anything that may be considered original research, or adding anything that appears to take a "side" in the article. Keep in mind it is not an encyclopedia's function to analyze or offer opinion, but to simply summarize what already has been reported in other sources. I'm sorry I cannot be of more assistance with regards to the article, but I'm sure that there are others on the talk page who would be more than happy to offer their help with the page. Cheers, Ariel♥Gold15:19, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I'll add a completely redundant "Welcome back" to the mix. Expletive, you've even got the lone wolves upbeat. Now that I've started bothering you, though, can I ask for your advice on an issue not related to Wikipedia but related to space exploration and weirdness? --Kizor06:02, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Kizor! Of course you can ask me, I may not know anything about it though, lol. If it is obscure, might want to include a link so I can read up on it :) And thank you for the welcome back! Ariel♥Gold15:31, 22 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ugh... Well, it is nice to know that there is no "drama reason" for KoS's departure, and I can respect that sometimes people must move on to other things, but KoS will most certainly be missed, by myself, a lot, and I'm sure by many others. Very sad to lose a long, long time administrator. :( Ariel♥Gold00:20, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Awww, thank you so much, Leamarie, thanks also goes to Tom, who took care of the requests while I was out sick, and I appreciate that so much. Maybe we can cut this award in half and give half to Tom, hee hee. Ariel♥Gold19:56, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

After much thought and deliberation I have decided to return. Many wikians contacted me by various means and I truly appreciate the support from all of them. Man, did I need that wiki break! I have learned from it and will use the experience to improve. — Rlevse • Talk • 19:36, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
As you know, this news brings a big smile to my face. Your endeavors here and participation are exceedingly valuable, and while we all need breaks now and then, I'm glad to see yours was not permanent. I'm so glad you're back! ~*Hugs*~ Ariel♥Gold19:55, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Keilana would like to nominate you to become an administrator. Please visit Wikipedia:Requests for adminship to see what this process entails, and then contact ArielGold to accept or decline the nomination. A page will be or has been created for your nomination at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/ArielGold . If you accept the nomination, you must formally state and sign your acceptance and answer the questions on that page. Once you have answered the questions, you may post your nomination for discussion, or request that your nominator do so.
I'm sorry, my dear Keilana, and everyone above who offer encouragement, but I'm simply not well enough yet to undertake this, I'm still not on the computer daily, and not strong enough to be able to sit at the computer and answer questions, and keep track of something like this. I'm sorry :( Go ahead and delete it for now, if you would please, I'd rather be at full health during an RfA. I hope you understand. ~*Hugs*~ Ariel♥Gold16:51, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure the RFA would run itself without you needing to worry about it! I mean, who could possibly object? :-) But in all seriousness, I hope you'll be back to full health as soon as possible. I've deleted it for now. *sob* Get well! henrik•talk21:42, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry to hear you're still not well Ariel, but so glad you are on the mend. And of course, thank you for updating the lolcat pikture on my userpage, I just smiled from ear to ear to see you back on there! :) ~Eliz81(C)04:46, 24 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
LOL I don't reject you! I hope that all of you know I adore you, and value the friendships I have here, and respect your opinions. Thank you for respecting that I'm not up to doing an RfA at this time, physically, or mentally I'm simply not well enough. ~*Big hugs*~ Ariel♥Gold01:24, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Excuses, excuses :) Yeah, pneumonia isn't my most favorite disease, of all the diseases I've contracted. Of course, I was 11 and wouldn't have made a good admin even in a healthy state, but still. Dear Wikipedia Good Fairy, I would like to know what you think about my conversations with those on the discussion page of this article. I have added sourced material to reliable third party references and they are removing it without even providing any references. What do you think? NancyHeise (talk) 02:25, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Nancy! So great to hear from you! I had a quick look at the discussion, but did not read the whole thing, so I'm not fully aware of the conflict. However, let me just say that religious discussions are an area that I personally prefer to not be involved in. I'm really sorry, but hope you understand. However, strictly speaking about Wikipedia and editing itself: If the sourced material is removed without explanation, it is appropriate for you to replace it, explaining that it is sourced, and add a note to the talk page. Having done that, if someone disagrees with the sourcing (as seems to be the case here), as being POV in nature (something I did not look into, so I do not offer an opinion), or being non-reliable, then discussion on the talk page should take place, and agreement decided before the re-addition of the material to the article. Sorry if that's not of much help, but I do hope that you get the conflict resolved. ~*Hugs*~ Ariel♥Gold01:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Haiku time...

I'm also down with something damned annoying. Drat. BTW, hope the penny drops and your fans/friends stop bugging you about the nomination; only you will know when you want to. Meanwhile it's like the mother overheard telling her son: "What part of NO do you not understand?!?" Anyway a few years ago I swallowed a book of translated Haiku whole. The result: "Silent watch dogs: Intruder! Over the wall... my neighbor's creeping vine." Take Care and Be Well, Shir-Eltoo03:31, 27 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Granted, I've never been particularly into Haiku, nor do I even know remember how many syllables go where, lol,... but I don't get that one. Forgive me if I'm being dense, and it is a funny joke that seems obvious, but I guess it went over my head lol. No matter, though, it is just wonderful to hear from you about anything, and always brings a smile to me to read your notes. And don't worry about the nom thing, I don't feel pressured, and I think enough of them know what a procrastinator I am, if nobody bugged me to do some things, I'd probably never do them! lol. ~*Big hugs*~ I hope your family is well, dear. This is ABSOLUTELY NONE OF MY BUSINESS, but you state that your BMI is 16.5, the WHO threshold for malnutrition-you may have a medical condition I'm not aware of-or it could be a typo. Either way, seems you should know.LeeRamsey (talk) 05:30, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hrmm, indeed, Tom, I'm not sure what happened, I fixed them temporarily for now, but I hope that someone can figure out what went wrong, lol. Thanks for letting me know about it! And Lee, it isn't a typo, but thank you for your concern. :) Ariel♥Gold01:11, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I noticed that you are a member of the Space missions and Human SpaceflightWikiProjects. A couple of weeks ago, I proposed that the Space missions and Space travellers projects, which both appear to be inactive, be merged into the Human Spaceflight project. Whilst this is being done, the capitalisation of the Human spaceflight project's title would also be corrected (ie. Human Spaceflight → Human spaceflight). The projects are all doing the same/very similar things, and in my opinion, a single, larger, project would be more effective than three smaller, and somewhat inactive projects.. In light of very little response to messages on the project talk pages, I am now sending this message to all members of all three projects, inviting them to discuss the proposal on the Human Spaceflight project's talk page. I would appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk21:37, 28 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Heya GW :) Thank you so much for letting me know. I've been quite ill, so needless to say, I have not seen changes to pages on my watchlist, or I'd certainly have commented by now. My apologies. I went ahead and did post on that thread, and agree with your suggestions, makes sense to merge the smaller, less active projects into one. Thanks again! Ariel♥Gold01:17, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
On a related note, thanks for your quick fix to User HSF Project! Obviously something had changed somewhere. I've modified it to be somewhat simpler, and both the text size and line height options now seem to work again. Let me know if the resulting userboxes look wrong to you anywhere! (sdsds - talk) 02:50, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hrmm, I'm honestly not sure what date the userbox went haywire, as I've been ill, so haven't been online regularly. I just noticed it today, but above, Tom noticed it yesterday, so your guess is as good as mine. I'm not sure what the new preprocessor does or how it would have changed the userboxes, because I am not quite as savvy at the coding in them as you are ;) Thanks for fixing them! Ariel♥Gold03:54, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks for your reply. I hope you feel better soon. I've taken a look at the userbox, and the elements you removed seem to control text size and line height. I've re-added the text size control to the spaceflight userbox, without parser functions, and I will look into whether the values can be preset tonight. Thanks. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk07:47, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Okay, it was quicker to do than I thought it would be. I added the following parameters to both templates, and they appear to be working perfectly.
What this does, is rather than ignoring the parameters if they are not there (as in the broken version), this resets them to their default values if they are not given.
Hey GW! Yes, it is displaying correctly now, with the parameters I removed re-added. I removed those because that was what I could find to change that "fixed" the display, although I am not sure what happened to it that broke it in the first place, I don't think it was any prior edit (if you look through the history, to the version prior to the one I "fixed" you can see what it appeared like) so probably it did have something to do with the new preprocessor Sdsds mentions, which is over my head, lol. I really appreciate you fixing them so the text size and line height is working again, since without that, they do appear oversized and don't match most other userboxes. Thank you both so much for figuring all of this out! Ariel♥Gold09:48, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
No problem. There were no changes to either userbox, or to the main template, which could have caused the problem. The spaceflight box was working on 20 January, because I remember editing it to reflect the project's renaming. My money would be on the preprocessor as well. I think that it does affect parser functions, which were the bits that you deleted. Anyway, it is now working, and it looks okay. Thanks for bringing this up. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk18:26, 29 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
New Signature
Latest comment: 16 years ago8 comments4 people in discussion
Ariel, would you look at some new signatures I can up with. They are here; User:Rocketmaniac/Sandbox2#New Signature Then would you please give me your opinion, which one do you like better? And finally, how do I start using this new signature? I mean I know I can cut and paste the code everytime I write something on someone's Talk page, but how (or can I) have this new signature automatically come up with I type the four wiggly things? Thanks for you help, Rocketmaniac (talk) 01:49, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
I prefer the second one ;) You should go to 'my preferences', tick the raw signature box, then in the box above it, copy the code of the signature from your sandbox. Go down to the bottom of the page and click save, and your done! Tiddly-Tom07:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, when I saved the preferences I got the following error, "Invalid raw signature; check HTML tags". Does anyone see which HTML tag is causing the problem? Thanks Rocketmaniac (talk) 11:22, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
You have an extra <font> tag in there for no reason. Use
<font face="Verdana" color="4169E1">Rocket</font><font color="9400D3">maniac</font> <font face="Serif" color="4169E1">RT</font>
and you should be good (I tested the code and it accepts it). seresin | wasn't he just...?14:26, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for figuring out the problem. Well, here's the real test RocketmaniacRT17:17, 31 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Oooh, I like it! I too would have chosen either the first or second choice, so good decision! Thank you again, Tom, for helping when I was not here.
