The Security Guards are the secondary antagonists in the Disney/Pixar 2017 animated feature film Coco.

Background[]

Personality[]

These guards show a strict and serious personality to Ernesto de la Cruz, the so-called "greatest musician of all time". They are shown to follow Ernesto wherever he is at and they are shown to protect him from those who harm him. All the known guards who work for Ernesto are males.

During the aftermath after Héctor is revealed to be the greatest musician of all time, it is unknown of what happened to them after that. It is likely that they retired from their jobs as security guards.

Physical appearance[]

They are identical security guards. Each guard wears a black vest as well as wearing a pair of black shades on their eyes.

Appearances[]

Coco[]

In a plan to look for Ernesto de la Cruz, Miguel approaches a security guard who is happily greeting El Santo and María Félix together, allowing them to enter Ernesto's mansion. When Miguel approaches the guard, he rejects him, preventing him from entering the mansion. However, to his extent, he sneaks up into a band member's tuba where he and the rest of the Los Chachalacos band approach the guard, where he notices that they have been ranked as number one champions, allowing them to enter the mansion. Later when Miguel is talking to Ernesto in his mansion, Héctor approaches him and furiously confronts Ernesto, telling him that he stole his own songs to make him famous after revealing the truth about Ernesto. This leads Ernesto to send in a group of guards to throw Miguel and Héctor into a cenote.

After Miguel learns the truth about Héctor being his grandfather, the latter reconciles with Imelda who apologizes to her husband after abandoning him when she was alive before she started a shoemaking industry. When Miguel and the rest of the Rivera family members encounter Ernesto in his studio, they outsmart various security guards in a plan to attempt to retrieve Héctor missing photo to help Miguel bring it back to the torn portrait in the real world. Despite this, Miguel, his family, and his alebrije dog Dante were able to outsmart the guards. They are last seen during the "La Llorona" musical number where they attempt to arrest Imelda under Ernesto's command but they were ultimately foiled.

During the aftermath, Héctor is revealed to be the greatest musician of all time with Ernesto's legacy being tarnished after the latter was revealed to be a fraud the whole time; thus, it is unknown of what happened to the security guards after that as they make no further appearances at the end of the film.

Pixar Popcorn[]

In "A Day in the Life of the Dead", one incidental skeleton (presumably a security guard who previously worked for Ernesto himself) is seen stretching on a bar doing his exercise routine, not noticing his legs and feet being separated from him.

Triva[]

  • Salvador Reyes provided the voice of the security guard in the Spanish dub aside from English.
