Miguel Camino is a minor character in the 2011 Disney/Pixar animated film Cars 2. He is a Spanish racer who participates in the World Grand Prix.

Background[]

Physical description[]

According to Meet the Cars, Miguel is a 2007 Grand Touring Sports SS-E Racer who competes in the GTS2 (GT2) class along with Jeff Gorvette. Given that he is a 2007 car, and his engine blew out during the Tokyo race suggesting he is a front-engine vehicle, he is based on a 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR. The character also bears resemblance to the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe GT3 and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R GT1. He also draws inspiration from other cars such as the Ferrari 458, the Ferrari F430, and the ASC Diamondback Viper. Miguel's shape towards the side resembles cars such as the Lotus Evora and Chevrolet Camaro concept car. His engine type is a DOHC V8, with 570 HP. He can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph. His tires are Tok-Eo P215/65R15 89H, traction A, temperature A.

Miguel is painted dark yellow, with various colors painted all over. He has red designs on the bottom of his doors, as well as a black star next to his number "5". On his hood, he has Spanish designs colored red, black, and orange. He has a large black spoiler and chrome rims.

Appearances[]

Cars 2[]

"Spain's most renowned, admired, and captivating car is Pamplona's Miguel Camino. He first caught his home country's attention by participating in the infamous Running of the Bulldozers. His flair, style, and speed as a toreador in the dozer ring has inspired a generation of young bulldozer fighters, and soon that same speed and verve turned the headlights of fans and competitors alike on the Grand Touring Sport racing circuit. Bearing the #5 and the fiery colors of the Spanish flag, Miguel Camino is hoping to race his way into more hearts at the World Grand Prix."

In the movie, he was the first racer zapped by the lemons' machine during the race in Tokyo, and he went into the pits. Brent Mustangburger says "Very unusual, Darrell. He's been so consistent all year." During that race, his pit was between Lightning McQueen's and Nigel Gearsley's. In the Italy race, he is the 4th car to get damaged, as he crashes with Shu Todoroki, and gets hit by Max Schnell. However, he got fixed and was able to race in London. When the race started, he was in third place. Then, he raced in Radiator Springs.

Planes[]

In Planes, Miguel makes a brief cameo via a Porto Corsa vintage poster, that shows him, Francesco Bernoulli, and Raoul ÇaRoule, on Dusty Crophopper's wall in his garage.

Other appearances[]

In Lamp Life and Toy Story That Time Forgot, there is a toy car similar to Miguel and Fernando Alonso, along with toys that resemble Shu Todoroki and Rip Clutchgoneski.

Video games[]

Cars 2: The Video Game[]

In Cars 2: The Video Game, Miguel makes an appearance as a playable character, unlocked by gaining access to Clearance Level 4.

Cars: Fast as Lightning[]

In Cars: Fast as Lightning, Miguel is one of the racers who builds their own track at Radiator Springs to show how he can beat his rivals. He is unlocked after beating him as Boost, and in doing so, the player also unlocks his track and pit. He has four paint jobs available, those: Spanish Flag, Para España, ICE, and Neon Camino.

Trivia[]

  • Miguel's pit crew chief is Petro Cartalina.
  • The Mattel toy version of Miguel has an error which is a red spoiler on him instead of a black one. The Disney version of him has the black spoiler.
  • According to Meet the Cars, Miguel is a 2007 Grand Touring Sports SS-E Racer which is a fictional sports car that draws inspiration from various GT-style cars but is primarily based on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR which was first introduced in the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show. However, the character also resembles the Dodge Viper Competition Coupe, and the Chrysler Viper GTS-R GT2; both being cars that raced in 2007 and having a background history in endurance racing.
  • While the exact abbreviation for "SS-E" is unknown, it may be a type of sport/performance package that's usually given to cars as a performance option.
  • Miguel Camino's full name is a reference to the Chevy El Camino. "Camino" is a Spanish word, which can be translated as "road."
  • The black and red designs on Miguel's body are Miró-inspired and are also based on the flag of Spain (with the Spanish coat of arms on the hood).
