Orígenes
La película está basada en el libro «A Day with Wilbur Robinson» (Un día con Wilbur Robinson), de William Joyce. Originalmente la película tenía el mismo título que el libro. El nombre Wilbur Robinson hace referencia al personaje Will Robinson de la serie de televisión de los años setenta Perdidos en el espacio.
Sinopsis
Lewis, un inteligente muchacho huérfano de doce años,ha inventado "El Escáner de Memoria", una máquina que le ayudará a encontrar a su madre biológica. Pero antes de probarla, el malvado Tipo del Bombín y Doris, su diabólico e inseparable sombrero, le arruinan y después le roban su invento. Entonces, Lewis conoce a un misterioso muchacho llamado Wilbur Robinson, quien le propone viajar al futuro y pasar un día con la disparatada familia Robinson. En un mundo repleto de maravillosos inventos, los chicos tendrán que atrapar a los dos malhechores, salvar el futuro, y desvelar el secreto de la familia Robinson.
