USHJA Affiliate Member Organization News
Get to Know Your USHJA Zone 10 Affiliate Organizations:

Gretchen Clark is the owner of Showcase Training Stables in Redlands, Calif., and she is the President of the Inland Empire Hunter Jumper Association (IEHJA). “Our association has been in existence for about 15 years and we have about 100 members right now,” Gretchen explained. “We offer shows in the areas surrounding Redlands, Temecula, and Thousand Palms.”

Gretchen believes there are a lot of benefits to being a USHJA Affiliate Organization. “It’s very important for us to be linked to USHJA so our members have goals to reach for and opportunities to participate in programs like the USHJA Horsemanship Quiz Challenge (HQC). I am hoping to attract new members who want to take advantage of these opportunities.”

The IEHJA offers four medal finals: a flat medal final, a 2’3’’ medal final, a 2’6’’ medal final, and a 2’9’’ medal final. “It’s really rewarding to see riders get started and move up over time. We normally host the medal finals at our year-end show and have a year-end banquet in February. Due to the pandemic, last year we ended up having finals at Galway Downs in October. We were really happy that we were able to make finals happen since our members worked hard to qualify.”

She looks forward to continuing to grow the organization. “One of our challenges has been the geography here since our members are very spread out. We are trying to get more interest in our area, get more people involved, and add more shows to our calendar. As we keep building our organization, I really appreciate all that USHJA does. It’s very helpful that USHJA Zone 10 is recognizing us.”

As both IEHJA President and a trainer, Gretchen is excited for the upcoming season. “I am thrilled for some of my students to participate in the USHJA HQC this year. I really believe in teaching horse care and involvement. It makes me happy to see my clients and horses improve because I have trained them. For me, it’s so gratifying and one of the things that makes this sport so special.”
