Description The U.S. Navy submarine USS Ray (SSR-271) receiving an additional hull section at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. In December 1950, she was towed to Philadelphia for conversion to a radar picket submarine. Redesignated SSR-271 on 3 January 1951, she was recommissioned on 13 August 1952.
