Summary

[edit]
Description Lot-805-12 (42239): Operation Husky - Invasion of Sicily, 9 July – August 17, 1943. More than 2000 ships joined to speed the United Nations invasion of Sicily and many of them were American landing craft of all types. Beachheads were established by fighting forces from the radically designed and highly-specialized fighting ships, many of which pushed their way across the Atlantic under their own power. This picture of a convoy of LST (landing ship, tank) ships show the craft as they make their way across the Atlantic bound for North Africa. Photograph released July 13, 1943. Photographed through Mylar sleeve. U.S. Navy Photograph. (2015/10/30).
