Commons:Deletion requests/File:Cardinal Gerald Lacroix.jpg

This deletion discussion is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive. You can read the deletion policy or ask a question at the Village pump. If the circumstances surrounding this file have changed in a notable manner, you may re-nominate this file or ask for it to be undeleted.

Flickr has no files of the cardinal which have valid licenses. It therefore seems unlikely this license is valid, given especially the source file is manifestly wrong. Not only does it not exist, if it did, it would be for a different person. Footlessmouse (talk) 09:29, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked through https://www.flickr.com/photos/abelda/ again and used Internet Archive to go back in time. Abelda does not have any photos with commercial use allowed licenses and the Internet Archive did not archive that page or any othe page mentioning the photo. • Delete. You are correct that this photo cannot be on Commons and thank you for nominating it for deletion. The whole story about this file is a bit longer. I remember it. It was actually briefly on flickr at the given source until it was quickly deleted from there. The flickr user never claimed to be the author. In the flickr page, the actual author, professional photographer Carolle Dachowski, was credited. The licensing problem was mentioned on the French-language Village pump Commons:Bistro/archives/2015/09#Avis aux vérificateurs de licence. Soon after that, the photo was deleted from flickr. Probably because the flickr user realised that he was doing a copyright violation by posting a photo on which he did not own the rights. -- Asclepias (talk) 18:16, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
