  • 49ers' Charvarius Ward: DNP due to hamstring injury

Ward (hamstring) did not participate in Thursday's practice session, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Ward wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, but the fact that the hamstring injury prevented him from practicing Thursday puts him in jeopardy of not suiting up against the Rams in Week 3. He'll have to practice in at least a limited capacity Friday in order to have a shot at playing Sunday. If Ward is sidelined, then Deommodore Lenoir would be the top candidate to start at corner opposite Isaac Yiadom.

  • 49ers' Nick Bosa: Nursing rib injury

Bosa (ribs) was limited during Thursday's practice session, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The rib injury appears to be recent, as Bosa did not show up on the 49ers' injury report Wednesday. His participation in Friday's session will provide a better indication on his status for Sunday's NFC West showdown against the Rams. Bosa has tallied seven tackles (five solo), including 2.0 sacks, over the first two games of the regular season.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Not practicing Thursday

Samuel (calf) won't practice Thursday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

With Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) out Weeks 1 and 2, Samuel was getting some run out of the 49ers backfield in addition to his work as a receiver. Overall, Samuel had 23 touches for 177 yards from scrimmage and one rushing touchdown before he strained his right calf in the waning moments of this past Sunday's loss in Minnesota. Coach Kyle Shanahan relayed Monday that Samuel is in line for a multi-game absence, and George Kittle (hamstring) joined him on the injury report Thursday as a non-participant, leaving San Francisco potentially down three of its top skill-position talents Week 3. Currently, WR Brandon Aiyuk is the lone healthy regular, while Jauan Jennings, Chris Conley, Ronnie Bell and Jacob Cowing are the other options at the position on the active roster.

  • 49ers' George Kittle: Misses practice with hammy injury

Kittle won't practice Thursday due to a hamstring injury, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Kittle wasn't included on the 49ers' initial Week 3 injury report, but he'll be given Thursday off after experiencing tightness in his hamstring coming out of Wednesday's practice session, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The mid-week absence suddenly threatens Kittle's availability for Sunday's game against the Rams, but the 49ers won't decide whether he'll carry a designation into the weekend until after Friday's practice. With starting wideout Deebo Samuel (calf) already expected to miss Sunday's contest, Kittle's status takes on even greater significance than usual.

  • 49ers' Jacob Cowing: Limited to special teams thus far

Cowing played three snaps -- all on special teams -- in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the 49ers.

The rookie fourth-round pick has been active for both of the 49ers' first two games of the season, but he has yet to see any use on offense. With top wideout Deebo Samuel (calf) trending toward an absence this Sunday versus the Rams, Cowing will move up a spot in the pecking order at receiver, though he still appears to be behind all of Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, Chris Conley and Ronnie Bell.

  • 49ers' Kyle Juszczyk: Three catches in Week 2

Juszczyk recorded three receptions for 19 yards on five targets in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the 49ers.

Though Jordan Mason has logged 20-plus carries in both of the 49ers' first two games in the absence of Christian McCaffrey (Achilles), Mason hasn't assumed McCaffrey's high-volume role in the passing game, logging just two targets. Mason's lack of involvement on passing downs has paved the way for Juszczyk to see more looks as a check-down target for quarterback Brock Purdy, with the fullback's five targets Sunday representing his most in a game since the 2021 season. Juszczyk still isn't seeing enough volume as a pass catcher to put himself on the fantasy radar, however, and he has yet to see any use as a ballcarrier through two weeks.

  • 49ers' Talanoa Hufanga: Practices in full Wednesday

Hufanga (knee) was listed as a full participant in Wednesday's practice session, Jenna Laine of ESPN.com reports.

Wednesday's practice was Hufanga's first as a full participant this season, perhaps setting the stage for him to make his 2024 debut Sunday versus the Rams. Before suffering a season-ending ACL tear last November, Hufanga tallied 52 tackles (39 solo) and three interceptions. If available against the Rams, Hufanga will likely reclaim a starting role at safety, though the 49ers could ease him back into the mix with a more limited snap count than usual.

  • 49ers' Dee Winters: Past ankle issue

Winters (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The second-year pro missed each of the 49ers' first two contests due to an ankle injury, but following Wednesday's full practice, it appears he's moved past the issue. Now that Winters has returned to full health, he's expected to serve as one of San Francisco's top rotational linebackers.

  • 49ers' Deebo Samuel: Not practicing Wednesday

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Samuel (calf) won't practice Wednesday, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.

Samuel's absence to begin Week 3 prep comes as no surprise after Shanahan relayed Monday that the wideout was slated to miss "a couple" games due to the strained right calf that he suffered late in this past Sunday's loss at Minnesota, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. Samuel thus is destined to be ruled out by week's end ahead of Sunday's road matchup with the Rams. Jauan Jennings is poised to jump into the starting lineup alongside Brandon Aiyuk during Samuel's absence, while Chris Conley, Ronnie Bell and Jacob Cowing are the other healthy wide receivers in the 49ers' active roster.
