What if there was no tomorrow? That's an existential question posed not only by the 2014 time loop film "Edge of Tomorrow," but also by its sequel's complicated status following the original's successful release. Ever since 2015, director Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt have spoken at various times about a sequel movie getting off the ground. At one point, Liman had said that the sequel would be entitled "Live Die Repeat and Repeat" (referencing the movie's ersatz title/subtitle) and that the film's co-writer Christopher McQuarrie would also return. He even claimed that the concept was so good that "it's gonna revolutionize how people make sequels."
Alas, a myriad of obstacles have gotten in the way in the intervening years between that statement and now, with Blunt saying in August 2023 that she's still interested in making a sequel, but doesn't know when or how it could happen. Given the project's stalled status,...

The collector market for film fans has evolved quite a bit from when I was a young fan. Sure, there were opportunities for me to spend my money, but these days, there are so many better opportunities and better items. There's the entire poster phenomenon, best embodied by the success of Mondo, which has spurred what feels like an entire industry. I recently got talked into joining some commission groups, so now I've got some ultra-limited art coming my way that I look at as even more special because I had a hand in designing it. It was inevitable that soundtracks would also end up being major collector pieces, and one of the great frustrations for me when I was a younger film fan was realizing just how random the process is by which scores get released. There are some great companies now doing important archival work, like La-la-Land Records,...

Yes, this is the time of year when the membership catches up on all the films they wanted to see in the theater and missed or have been told they really need to watch. Most members probably got through a significant portion of their screener pile over the Thanksgiving weekend, but this is the week where many of the December releases finally get their chance to prove their worthiness on the small screen. One of our missions at In Contention is to inform cinephiles, the industry and movie fans of the achievements that have or are about to take place in the world of cinema. That happens to include the Academy members who frequent our site. And we hope they're paying attention,...

Meta joins previous new additions: Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee), Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), Jena Malone (Johanna Mason) Lynn Cohen (Mags) and Amanda Plummer (Wiress). The...

Katniss Everdeen just had a new opponent enter the arena because Meta Golding has landed the role of returning champion Enobaria in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
She’s a cutie, isn’t she? Well, don’t let that pretty face fool you because Enobaria is as ruthless as they come. During her first run through the Games, the District 2 tribute secured a win ***** Major Spoiler If You Haven’T Read The Book – by ripping out her opponents throats with her teeth. It was such a signature move that she had her teeth filed down to be like fangs End Spoiler *****
If Golding looks familiar, it’s possible that you may have seen her on the small screen in Criminal Minds, CSI, or Day Break, as well as Bruce Willis’ 2009 sci-fi flick Surrogates. It should be interesting to see if she has the stuff to bring Enobaria’s ferocity to life.

We've still got tons of casting updates coming in about The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and still, they're not about the most interesting new role, Finnick. But Meta Golding, who has just been cast to play Enobaria in the hotly anticipated sequel, will still have a lot to chew in her new role, playing a former Hunger Games winner who's famous for winning her own Games in a particularly brutal way: by ripping out another player's throat with her teeth. Lionsgate, which announced Golding's casting today, hasn't announced who will play Brutus, a fellow former Games winner from District 2 who, true to his name, is just as tough as Enobaria. As for Golding, you might recognize her from any number of roles on TV, from recent appearances on CSI: Miami and NCIS: Los Angeles to a stint on the short-lived series Day Break. Golding is a little more glamorous and...

Being dubbed 'the new Lost' does shows a disservice. The series' true heir will be equally leftfield
Have you heard the buzz about Awake, Sky Atlantic's latest twisty, high-concept mystery drama? Apparently it's The New Lost. Which is interesting, because prehistoric time-travel adventure Terra Nova was supposed to be The New Lost. As was complex government conspiracy thriller Rubicon. Oh, and Alcatraz, Day Break, Day One, The Event, FlashForward, Fringe, Heroes, Invasion, Jericho, the Us remake of Life On Mars, The Nine, Once Upon A Time, Person Of Interest, Persons Unknown, The River, Six Degrees, Surface, Threshold and the remake of V.

While female Yankee fans are buzzing about Derek Jeter's new single status, sources on the set of Charlie's Angels in Miami are talking about a growing late-night friendship between his ex Minka Kelly and her costar Ramon Rodriguez. "We have seen Minka and Ramon talking in his trailer way after hours, and often late into the night," a source on the set tells People. There is much for viewers of TNT’s Falling Skies to look forward to. For one, the alien-invasion series has been picked up for a second season, just four weeks into its freshman run. Also, looking to the immediate future, this Sunday’s episode takes us inside the head of Anne Glass, the stalwart but not-entirely-indestructible pediatrician tasked with human medical matters as well as taking scientific stock of the “skitter” being help captive by the 2nd Massachusetts. (Along the way, we’ll also learn something new about the ETs, including what exactly they do with the harnessed kids at bedtime!

As the star of TNT’s much anticipated Falling Skies, Noah Wyle wasn’t looking to front TV’s definitive alien invasion series. In fact, he says he has seen neither V, The Event, nor The Walking Dead (if one wants to stretch the definition). No, he was just looking for a bit of therapy.

Many actors say they enjoy balancing film and TV work, but few straddle those two ever-blurring worlds as evenly as Moon Bloodgood. In the past five years, Bloodgood has starred in hits like "Eight Below" and franchise pics like "Terminator Salvation," while also taking lead roles in intriguing -- intriguing but short-lived -- TV shows like "Day Break" and "Journeyman." When you need a tough, attractive actress whose ethnicity you can't quite pinpoint, Bloodgood's name is high on the speed-dial list. Bloodgood's latest TV project is TNT's "Falling Skies," in which she plays Anne Glass, a pediatrician living...

Morning Glory
Stars: Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, Patrick Wilson, Jeff Goldblum | Written by Aline Brosh McKenna | Directed by Roger Michell
The setup for Morning Glory seems promisingly funny, if unlikely to rip up any rulebooks. Roger Michell (Notting Hill) directs spunky television producer Rachel McAdams, who is given a tough break in charge of an ailing breakfast television programme (which, in an amusing coincidence, is called Day Break), to which she manages to lure Harrison Ford’s crotchety and serious newscaster as a new presenter. Ford’s commitment to hard journalism and general misanthropy clashes with the triviality of the show, his co-anchor Diane Keaton and McAdams’s positivity. Comedy, surely, ensues.
It feels wrong to criticise a film that seems to try so hard and has plenty of good things going for it, but Morning Glory is terribly lacklustre, utterly predictable and painfully average. Those good things...

Wonder Woman may have gotten no love from the folks at NBC, but another 70s show is making its way onto Fall 2011 television sets.
ABC has made a series pickup Charlie’s Angels today, with Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights), Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital) and Rachael Taylor (Grey’s Anatomy) stepping up to the plate as the sexy detectives. As for Charlie, veteran actor Robert Wagner will be the man behind the microphone.
The new series boasts some great talent behind the camera with Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar writing the pilot and Angels’ film franchise star Drew Barrymore serving as one of the producers.
The show has received outstanding buzz from its screenings and emerged as one of the stronger pilots of this upfront season. The modern take on the franchise will be set in Miami and will also feature actor Ramon Rodriguez (The Wire, Day Break...

And it may be a cliffhanger indeed, since that very same day, NBC has its upfront presentation to advertisers, where it will announce its fall schedule. So, if fans haven't heard whether "Chuck" is renewed for a fifth season before then, they'll know for certain by the time that episode airs at 9 p.m. Et.
Having just finished her first season as a series regular, Bonita Friedericy, who plays General Diane Beckman -- the commanding officer that leads the spy team of Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski), John Casey (Adam Baldwin) and Morgan Grimes (Joshua E. ABC's "Charlie's Angels" pilot has found its younger, hotter Bosley: Ramon Rodriguez, TV Line reports. Best known for his role as Leo Spitz in "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," Rodriguez's previous TV credits include "The Wire" and "Day Break."
In the reboot, Bosley is described as a "charming and funny guy with GQ looks and Peter Pan smile who has great hacking skills and technical knowledge." While Zap2it's pick fit the bill -- cough Taylor Kinney cough -- Rodriguez definitely has the looks and smile for the part. As with the original series, he will also be made fun of a lot, but it's all in good fun.
Rodriguez joins a cast that includes Minka Kelly ("Friday Night Lights" and "The Roommate"), Rachael Taylor (Also of "Transformers" fame) and Annie Ilonzeh as the new generation of sexy agents.

To promote their new film, Morning Glory, actors Harrison Ford, Rachel McAdams and Patrick Wilson Patrick Wilson and director Roger Michell held a press conference at Claridge’s Hotel in London. A large selection of the international press arrived to ask questions varying from environmental issues to ’special body language’. Harrison Ford was a quietly dominant presence and both very intelligent and dryly humorous. Patrick Wilson seemed a little as though he might be suffering from an inferiority complex from his co-star, but was also interesting and funny. Rachel McAdams was charming and excitable and Roger Michell was also a pleasant interviewee.
Mr Michell, I’m sure you’re aware that in this country the title of the film, I’m told, can mean something… Different?
Rm: I had heard that it can have a second meaning. I think Paramount caught up with this possible confusion quite late in the day.

Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their plans to wed last week, and today monarchy officials released news on the ceremony's date - William and Kate will become man and wife in just five months on Friday, April 29, 2011, at London's Westminster Abbey. The day will be a national holiday, meaning Britons can look forward to a four-day weekend combined with their annual May Day break on Monday, May 2. Kate was spotted at Westminster Abbey last Wednesday with her parents, leading many to believe she and William would choose that location. Her visit to the famed church came just after she and William showed off her 18-carat ring. The couple have come a long way since meeting nearly a decade ago, and you're excited to follow the engagement as details emerge.
