Exclusive: Indican Pictures has acquired North American rights for Boaz Yakin’s dance, rap and slam poetry-led romance Once Again (For The Very First Time) and will start rolling it out theatrically across the U.S. in October.
Billed as a break-dance, hip-hop supernatural fantasy, the movie stars Jeroboam Bozeman as DeRay, a legendary rapper and convicted killer who falls through the sky to land outside the door of Naima (Mecca Verdell), a slam poetess who is the love of his life.
The lovers are both survivors of trauma and guilt, who channel their pain into their art against the backdrop of the war zone of the New York streets. They wrestle with their love in an emotional and psychological space that is out of place and out of time.
The dance sequences were choreographed by Rennie Harris and the score was written by Marcus Norris (Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul.

A middlebrow triumph-against-the-odds sports crowd-pleaser can be a beautiful thing — that is, if it doesn’t pander and lose itself in clichés, and if it has as much respect for reality as it does for getting an inspirational rise out of you. “Unstoppable,” a wrestling drama based on the life of the college champion Anthony Robles, is an honest and stirring entry in the genre, with genuine commercial potential. It has plenty of familiar tropes, but in its no-frills way it touches a nerve of authenticity. The true story it tells is nothing short of extraordinary, and that may be why the filmmakers didn’t feel the need to overhype it.
In the opening scene, we’re at the High School Nationals in Philadelphia in 2006. Anthony, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., played by the superb Jharrel Jerome (who was Chiron’s love interest in the second segment of “Moonlight” and...

Image Source: Walt Disney Over the years, Denzel Washington has established a reputation for outstanding performances in high-quality movies, performances that have earned him 10 Oscar nominations, including two wins. Of course, some of those movies resonated with both him and audiences more than others. And even though it wasn’t one of those films that earned him a nomination, Washington considers Remember the Titans to be one of those transformative films. In fact, at the time the film was released in 2000, Washington told us that it had affected him more than any other movie he’d made up to that point. Plot: When the disappearance of a young girl grips the city of Baltimore on Thanksgiving 1966, the lives of two women converge on a fatal collision course. Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist, and Cleo Johnson, a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family. Their disparate lives seem parallel at first, but when Maddie becomes fixated on Cleo’s mystifying death, a chasm opens that puts everyone around them in danger.

Hollywood star Ryan Gosling is known for his charismatic presence on and off the screen and has captivated audiences with a diverse range of memorable roles throughout his career. However, before gaining recognition for his performances in films like The Notebook and Barbie, the actor embodied another iconic character in a TV series, Young Hercules.

Veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer talks to us about his latest film, Young Woman And The Sea, and the long process of getting it made.
Some movies descend into the ninth circle of development hell and never return, but Young Woman And The Sea, at least, has a happy ending. Having begun life in 2015 at Paramount Pictures, the project – about real-world swimmer Gertrude Ederle and her 1926 attempt to swim the English Channel – was put into turnaround five years later.
By 2020, the production had lost its original star, Lily James, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer doggedly continued to try to get it made, eventually striking a deal with Walt Disney Pictures. There, it was originally intended as fodder for the Mouse House’s Disney+ streaming service, yet the film director Joachim Rønning came back with was so impressive that Disney executives decided to give it a limited cinema release.

Put down that notebook, grab your tap-dancing shoes, and saddle up because we're about to break down why one of Hollywood's most prominent leading men is more than Kenough.
In his thirty years as an actor, Ryan Gosling has amassed a total of 107 award nominations and 40 wins. No small feat, considering he's been known to take multiple years-long breaks in his line of work.
Having cemented a career with roles ranging from comedy to thriller to action, Gosling is not one to limit himself. As Roger Ebert said, Ryan "proves he's one of the finest actors in contemporary movies."
Starting at a young age, Gosling managed to sidestep the drama that has plagued many notable child stars in Hollywood's history.
The actor likely saw the downfall of fellow industry peers and prioritized his mental health to avoid such pitfalls.
Whatever the case, Ryan has also made a name for himself...

The 16 Best Ryan Gosling Movies, from ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Drive’ to ‘Barbie’ and ‘Blade Runner 2049’
[Editor’s note: this list was originally published in July 2023, and has since been updated.]
Ryan Gosling has that Ken-ergy. He’s Ken out of Ken. He’s Kendlessly Kentertaining. He’s the Kend all, be all. He’s the Kenvy of other actors. He’s impossible to not Kenjoy. He’s more, much more, than Kenough.
Gosling has had a long, fruitful career, but it’s safe to say that he’s never committed to a role as hard as he’s committed to the bit that was the “Barbie” press tour. Every interview and soundbite the Canadian actor gave in the publicity run for Greta Gerwig’s take on the iconic Mattel toy line has launched meme after meme, as he’s spoken about the importance of telling the tragic story of Barbie’s beau Ken. It’s a commitment that’s only seconded by his performance in the film itself, where he goes for broke with a hilarious, oblivious, and often sweet...

From Rocky Balboa fights to cornfield baseball games, virtually every mainstream sport has received a few moments in the Hollywood spotlight. But it’s hard to think of a sport more intrinsically intertwined with cinema than bodybuilding. Football fans might enjoy watching “Remember the Titans” on an offseason afternoon, but cinematic recreations are unlikely to scratch the same itch as live games on an NFL Sunday. Bodybuilding, on the other hand, has enjoyed a symbiotic relationship with Hollywood ever since a certain Austrian named Arnold Schwarzenegger set foot in California. For the past half century, documentaries about the sport have often drawn more mainstream attention than any live broadcast of an actual competition.
In many fans’ eyes, the sport of bodybuilding first gained mainstream legitimacy with the release of “Pumping Iron,” George Butler and Robert Fiore’s landmark 1977 documentary about Schwarzenegger’s preparations for the Mr. Olympia competition. In addition...

Hayden Panettiere said in a recent interview with The Messenger that filming “Nashville” was “very traumatizing because I felt like I was acting out my own life.” The actor played country pop singer Juliette Barnes on the ABC musical drama, which ran for six seasons and 124 episodes between 2012 and 2018. Panettiere suggested the show’s writers often pulled from her real life while crafting Juliette’s storylines, which was emotionally traumatizing for her as storylines used her real-life struggle with alcoholism.
“Straight from the beginning, it was like, I’m dating a football player, [and then] Juliette dates a football player,” Panettiere said. “And then they turned her into an alcoholic. Then they turned to her leaving her daughter and going to this crazy [place] in Europe, and it was very obvious…They weren’t doing their homework. They weren’t creating new storylines. They were just looking at my life and going, ‘Oh,...

Maria Georgas didn’t make a good enough impression on Joey Graziadei to get the first impression rose, but she definitely has The Bachelor viewers talking.
She showed up on night one with a flower in her hair and gifted Joey with a tiny Canadian flag.
The Bachelor viewers were confused when the flag was blurred out as Joey tucked it into his jacket pocket.
Immediately, viewers took to social media to query why the flag was blurred out.
They also commented on Maria herself, as many think she’ll take the villain role this season and believe she’ll be ruffling feathers in the mansion.
We haven’t seen much of that yet, but we’re just getting started as Season 28 kicked off on Monday night.

"Next Goal Wins" stumbled out of the gate in its opening weekend at the box office, which is unfortunate news for director Taika Waititi. After last year's disappointing "Thor: Love and Thunder," I was hoping his football/soccer-themed comedy would feel like a return to the types of smaller, more personal movies he made earlier in his career. Sadly, the film is a total misfire. I didn't laugh a single time, and it explores its story of a team overcoming adversity through the myopic lens of its white coach, played by Michael Fassbender. There are a couple of nods to what the game means to the players and the culture of American Samoa, but the film is frustratingly committed to seeing most of the action through the eyes of Fassbender's Thomas Rongen, and basically congratulating him for eventually learning to tolerate the existence of trans people.

Everyone is very familiar with the likes of Rocky, Field of Dreams, and Remember the Titans. Those three are some of the most popular – and greatest – sports films of all time. They are routinely included in articles covering the finest of the genre and justifiably get all the plaudits. A good sports movie is not as simple as just telling an underdog story, or a rags-to-riches tale, of overcoming adversary and winning the championship – or, at the very least, learning a valuable lesson about life itself. Those elements and plotlines are all very familiar when it comes to sports ... Read more...

Jason Statham is a franchise unto himself. He tends to more or less play the same growly-voiced butt-kicking macho man over and over with superficial differences, like how his titular super-spy in "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre" enjoys a fine wine. Or how his personal driver, Frank Martin, in "The Transporter" films is meticulous about keeping his suits clean and neatly pressed. You always know exactly what to expect from his films and there's a comfort in that. They embody the type of "Action Movies Your Dad Watches" that were the bread and butter of networks like TNT and TBS in the pre-streaming age of cable.

Hollywood loves feel-good, based-on-real-life sports dramas, and isn't shy about drastically altering the facts to mine these tales for maximum stand-up-and-cheer potential. The scrappy high-school basketball underdogs in "Hoosiers" were, despite the school's small enrollment, actually a top team in the state during that supposed Cinderella season (which is why the filmmakers opted to set the film in a fictional town). "Remember the Titans" is riddled with inaccuracies, one of the most egregious being that T.C. Williams High School's climactic game against George C. Marshall High occurred in the middle of the season. And while the title character of "Rudy" did fulfill his dream of suiting up for his beloved Notre Dame Fighting Irish, retired NFL quarterback Joe Montana, who was on the team at the time, says the dramatic uniform-dumping scene is a pure fabrication.

Gosling was in “The Mickey Mouse Club” and “Young Hercules” before his break-out role in “The Notebook,” which propelled him into stardom. His good looks are unforgettable, but he is unafraid to embrace his quirks onscreen or off-screen.

Actor Denzel Washington has starred in a variety of film projects over the years – from Malcolm X to Remember the Titans. But there was one character he played that he shared his wife wasn’t particularly happy with.
Denzel Washington proposed to his wife Pauletta Pearson 3 times before she agreed to marry him Denzel Washington | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Washington and his wife Pauletta Pearson have enjoyed decades’ worth of marriage. The two first met on the 1977 television series Wilma as acquaintances. But the beginning of their relationship started when they ran into each other again a year later as Washington was doing a play.
“I had talked at that party about going to see a play. I went to see the play, and at intermission the lights came up and she was sitting [there]. She said she just happened to go see the play… I’m getting in trouble as I speak,...

Everyone knows the deal with 1997's "Batman & Robin" by now. We don't need to rehash the abject disappointment that accompanied its release and its legacy of having nearly killed off the Batman franchise — though, that might be fun ... but let's focus, here. In the wake of Joel Schumacher's second and final Batman movie, Warner Bros. was sent scrambling, lurching from one attempt to reboot the Dark Knight to another.
This went on for some years, with multiple projects being considered and developed before being scrapped. One such project, "Batman: DarKnight," would have been the complete opposite to "Batman & Robin," telling a dark tale that would see Dick Grayson used as a test subject in Dr. Jonathan Crane, Aka Scarecrow's twisted experiments. Of course, we all know how the story plays out, with Warners nixing that movie in favor of Christopher Nolan's origin tale "Batman Begins.

Morgan Freeman, a legend in Hollywood in more ways than one, is opening up about how he found his place as an actor in the middle of the civil rights movement and why it’s an “insult” for Black history to be just one month every year.
During an interview with The Sunday Times, published online Saturday, the Now You See Me actor said while he credits his career to courage and luck, he also credits changes in America.
“When I was growing up there was no ‘me’ in the movies,” he said. “If there was a Black man in a movie he was funny. Until Sidney Poitier came and gave young people like me the idea that, ‘Ok, yes, I can do that.’”
Freeman went on to be an Oscar-winning actor, starring in an abundance of films, including Million Dollar Baby, Invictus, The Dark Knight, Se7en, Driving Miss Daisy and most recently,...

Historical dramas have a difficult path to tread because the last half is often undone by the first. There's still opportunity though to, as with the best documentary, tell an interesting story in an interesting way. Air doesn't quite clear the bar.
In a pantheon that includes Ali (Ali), Beane and Boone, Clough (The Damned United) and more, sporting biopics can highlight moments those casually aware of their subjects might not know, but they still end up stuck between theories of history. Are they great men or products of great eras? Upon whose shoulders do these giants stand? Or, as is the case here, within whose shoes do these giants walk?

Jerry Bruckheimer has seen it all. He remembers the go-go days at Paramount Pictures in the ’80s with his coked-up partner Don Simpson, which yielded the original “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Flashdance” and “Top Gun.” Simpson had incredible story instincts — he invented the “high-concept” movie — and networked Hollywood parties while ex New York ad-man Bruckheimer kept his head screwed on straight and made sure the visually stylish movies were delivered on time and on budget.
On his own in the ’90s and early 2000s, Bruckheimer was cock of the walk at the Disney studio, churning out high-testosterone, actioners from Bruce Willis vehicle “Armageddon” and Nic Cage in “Con Air” and “National Treasure” to Will Smith in “Enemy of the State” and the Johnny Depp “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, which proved that movies could string together VFX-heavy action sequences without worrying about the vagaries of plot. Over the decades Bruckheimer...

Super Bowl Lvii has the Kansas City Chiefs with quarterback Patrick Mahomes vs. the Philadelphia Eagles and Qb Jalen Hurts.
There are all kinds of football-based films out there to enjoy — from dramas to comedies, and even an award-winning documentary — and we’ve collected 12 of the best here in our photo gallery, ranked from worst to best.
In paring down the list, we had to answer the question: “Just what is a football movie?” We didn’t include “The Blind Side,” for example, because though its central character plays football, the film is primarily about many other things. And while Act 3 of Robert Altman‘s “M*A*S*H” is made up of what is arguably the funniest football game ever put to film, its main concerns are elsewhere.

Groundbreaking screenwriter and playwright Gregory Allen Howard passed away today at the age of 70. Howard made waves when his spec script about a real-life Black coach coming into a newly segregated Virginia school and helping lead their football team to victory hit Hollywood and was snapped up by Jerry Bruckheimer. Ultimately, they'd hire Denzel Washington to play the lead coach, Herman Boone, and the rest is history. "Remember the Titans" would go on to break the 100 million mark at the box office in 2000, a surprise hit for Buena Vista and its parent company, Walt Disney Pictures.
This would mark the first-ever accomplishment of a spec sale leading to a 100 million+ hit from a screenwriter of color and set Howard as Hollywood's go-to guy when it came to adapting the stories of historical Black figures.
Like most screenwriters, a good amount of Howard's work would remain unproduced, but he did collaborate...

Damien Chazelle’s Babylon will beat Santa to the Christmas punch by going wide on December 23. Initially, Babylon would have a limited release on Christmas Day in New York and Los Angeles before expanding wide in January. Now, the Chazelle-directed period piece is occupying prime holiday real estate and is competing against movies like 20th Century’s Avatar: The Way of Water and Universal/Dreamworks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
According to the official synopsis for Babylon, the film is “an original epic set in 1920s Los Angeles led by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Diego Calva, with an ensemble cast including Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li, and Jean Smart. A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, Babylon traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.”

Order a round of drinks and prepare for a sweaty night on the dance floor because Paramount has debuted a new collection of Babylon character posters. Set against a bustling nightlife fueled by music, merriment, and plenty of martinis, the new prints make it impossible not to feel the heat of Damien Chazelle‘s spiritual successor to La La Land.
Damien Chazelle directs and writes Babylon, with Marc Platt, Matthew Plouffe, and Olivia Hamilton producing. Michael Beugg, Tobey Maguire, Wyck Godfrey, Helen Estabrook,...

Hayden Panettiere opened up to People magazine about her years-long addiction to opioids and alcohol, revealing a member of her team gave her “happy pills” before red carpets when she was only 15 years old. The actor’s addiction worsened from there.
“They were to make me peppy during interviews,” Panettiere said of the pills she was told to take as a teenager. “I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction.”
Panettiere gained success as a child with roles in soap operas and Disney’s popular football drama “Remember the Titans” with Denzel Washington. She achieved greater acclaim with her leading role at 16 on NBC’s drama series “Heroes,” and she became a horror favorite with her supporting turn as Kirby in “Scream 4.” Panettiere was also the co-lead on ABC’s popular country music soap “Nashville.

Given that The Quarry is the latest horror game from the brilliant minds behind the modern genre classic Until Dawn, it should come as no surprise that the game’s cast is filled with horror character tropes voiced (and often motion-captured) by a lot of familiar names.
Indeed, part of the fun of playing a game like The Quarry comes from trying to figure out where you know so many of its cast members from. While a few names will jump out at you instantly, others most certainly fall into that “Oh yeah, I know them” category.
So if you’re tired of scratching your head over who is who in The Quarry, here’s a breakdown of the game’s cast of primary characters and where you might know their actors from.
Abigail Blyg – Voiced by Ariel Winter
Abigail is a shy and occasionally awkward camp counselor who seemingly aspires to be an artist.
