There are a lot of iconic video game soundtracks, but none are quite as magical as Fallout’s. There’s a strange alchemy to the way the franchise pairs its ultra-violent combat and desolate, post-apocalyptic setting with wistful mid-century ditties. The music isn’t a mere accompaniment to the gameplay; it’s the beating heart of the series and has made the games so enduring and beloved they’ve spawned an Amazon Prime TV show. In other words, without its licensed soundtrack, Fallout wouldn’t be the phenomenon it’s become.
The franchise’s musical identity has taken over 27 years to develop and evolve, but the ‘50s post-war sentiment of blissful optimism quivering under the looming threat of nuclear war that is felt throughout the series was established in the first game.

Oasis’ Noel Gallagher defended his decision to take inspiration from the music of The Beatles. He opined that Radiohead drew inspiration from one of the tracks from The White Album. The music of Ireland also became an inspiration for Oasis.
Oasis’ Noel Gallagher said The Beatles and another classic rock band inspired his group. In addition, he didn’t think there was anything wrong with drawing inspiration from earlier acts. Oasis recorded a version of The Beatles’ “I Am the Walrus” that is radically different from the Fab Four’s.
Oasis’ Noel Gallagher said his band crossed The Beatles with the Sex Pistols
During a 2009 interview in the book The Art of Noise: Conversations with Great Songwriters, Gallagher discussed the roots of Oasis. “Oasis were basically a cross between The Beatles and the Sex Pistols,” he said. “They were the two main loves of my life when I was growing up.

A joint project from a student collective comprising Laura Corominas Espelt, Laura Serra Solé, Clara Serrano Llorens, Gerard Simó Gimeno, Ariadna Ulldemolins Abad and Pau Vall Capdet, “La nit no fa vigília” also won the industry magazine Cine y Tele prize.
Francisco Bouza’s “Hidden City” follows a young soccer player in Buenos Aires who must undertake a journey across the city of the dead in order deal with the loss of a friend.

Exclusive: Josh Radnor (Hunters), Annie Parisse (Friends from College) and Nuala Cleary (The Crowded Room) will topline the period drama Three Birthdays from writer-director Jane Weinstock (The Moment), which has wrapped production. Other actors set for the pic include Jasmine Batchelor (New Amsterdam), Uly Schlesinger (Generation), Gus Birney (Shining Vale), Guy Burnet (Oppenheimer), Annie McNamara (Severance) and Dolly Wells (Doll & Em).
In the indie set in 1970, Radnor and Parisse star as college professor parents to a rebellious 16-year-old played by Cleary. Against the backdrop of the sexual revolution and increasingly violent demonstrations against the war in Vietnam, each member of this nuclear family struggles to reconcile the political with the personal. The film’s producers are Andrea Miller, Chris Collins and James Welling.

Stepping out in support of her jewelry making pal, Olivia Palermo was on-hand for the VIP grand opening of the Thomas Sabo store in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday night (June 4).
The MTV reality star stylishly walked the black carpet upon arriving to the Grand Canal Shoppes fete at the luxurious Venetian Resort & Casino.
While inside, Miss Palermo mingled with store namesake, Thomas Sabo, as well as fellow guests including Luz Enith and Nicky Hilton.
The Sabo outing comes just after Miss Palermo's "The City" co-star Roxy Olin spoke about her castmate's imperious nature.
Miss Olin tells Zap2it of Miss Palermo, "I don't know where her [Olivia's] entitlement came from. I was raised with no matter what job you have, you treat everyone equal. My mom (Patricia Wettig of "Brothers & Sisters") is from Nowheresville and earned every penny, so every penny counts. Olivia acts so privileged. Have you even earned it?...

The regular TV season has come to a close and while some finales have got us talking more than others (like that heartbreaking and awesome "House" ep), we still have a lot to say, so this week, we've selected a few series and will compare their 2010 season ender to their 2009 season ender.
We'll tell you which hour we feel was better, but we'll also have you vote on which one you think was tops.
So, without further ado, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"...
"Zebras" (2009): The case: A mother was murdered in Central Park, and the case is compromised after Stuckey accidentally contaminates evidence.
The characters: Stuckey's careless mistake allowed for the suspect, Harrison, to go free, much to the frustration of the Svu squad. Elliot ripped into him and the devastation Stuckey felt was clear. Bodies, which indicated Harrison as the killer, started turning up, but it wasn't that simple.

On the second part of “Over There”, Olivia and Walter are able to save Peter and prevent him from destroying our world, but at great costs! One member of the Division is left behind!
William Bell is out to stop a war and prevent the destruction of our universe. It appears that his intentions are good. With his help Walter is able to reopen the door into our universe. He is the one that helps the three get back home.
Bell also lets Walter know that he did remove arts of his brain because Walter wanted him to. Apparently Walter did not like the man he was becoming. Maybe he knew he was turning evil, sort of like Walternate. Now it all makes a bit of sense, don’t you think?
Without his memories or keen working brain, Walter is not the man he once was. He is a gibbering fool most of the time,...

The upcoming season finale of Fringe (TV) will bring with it more than just the end of the freaky Fox show's sophomore season. It will also close the book on the 60-year-long acting career of Leonard Nimoy. Nimoy has been playing the recurring role of the enigmatic William Bell, scientist, founder of Massive Dynamic, and a figure seemingly capable of existing in alternates universes. He'll return to the part one last time in the second half of the season capper, "Over There." Of course, Nimoy has retired in the past, only to be convinced by J.J. Abrams to reprise his most famous role, as the pointy-eared, green-blooded, eternally logical Vulcan, Spock, in the recent Star Trek XI: The Beginning (2009) reboot feature. And it was Abrams who personally requested that Nimoy portray Bell. Now, however, Nimoy is ready to live long and prosper without Spock, without Bell, without acting. He'll still...

We have to admit this episode left us a bit confused but wanting more! We are totally crazy about this show and are saddened that there is only one episode left.
On “Over There”, Olivia and Walter are able to cross into the other universe on a mission to find Peter. An Observer gives a piece of paper to Olivia, showing Peter and some strange machine. This triggers Walter’s memory, bringing back the promise he made to never let Peter return to his world.
Why would Walter have to make such a promise? Because apparently Peter going to destroy the world! What? We can’t believe that our universe is going to end because of our adorable Peter! We are literally on the edge of our seats.
So with the help of the Cortexiphan test subjects, Olivia and Walter successfully cross over. In this parallel universe, Martin Luther King Jr....

In this lull before the whirlwind of the 63rd edition starts, the question that I've been pondering is this: why have these past Cannes discoveries never crossed the Channel for a UK release?
Here we are in Cannes, the day before the official opening: the Tuesday Lull. It's the calm before the storm, which, traditionally, is not all that calm. The red carpet is still being hammered into place and the Grand Palais prepared by grey-suited officials bustling about everywhere. Last year, my friend Nigel Andrews of the Financial Times told me he saw a Cannes local walk down the Croisette, survey the scene and loudly sigh: "Les conneries commencent …" ("The bullshit begins …"). For journalists covering the festival, this is a time for savouring all the possibilities of movie experience that must surely be available in the next 10 days, before you're suddenly plunged straight into it, and there never seems to be enough time,...

Since she first made a name for herself at 16, Samantha Morton has been renowned for the intensity and intelligence of her work. Her two latest projects – The Messenger, a drama about the Iraq war, and The Unloved, based on her own deprived childhood, and which she co-wrote and directed – were typically idiosyncratic. What next for this most independent of actresses?
I have arranged to meet Samantha Morton at one o'clock in an east London photographic studio, where, if all is going to plan, she should just be finishing an Observer photoshoot. I turn up to find that she has arrived just minutes before me. Everyone is in a flap, so I repair to the bar next door to wait for her. An hour or so later she breezes in.

Olivia's manager has brushed off Drake's accusations the singer/rapper tricked fans into believing they had collaborated on a new track - insisting her team assumed the producers had been given the green light for the project. Lil Wayne's protege slammed Olivia for using his vocals on a track called "Control", which was leaked online - because he never agreed to work on a duet with the singer.
He said, "I've never worked with Olivia and I apologize to any fan who was duped into thinking that Control was a collaboration of mine." But a representative for Olivia - most famous for her 50 Cent duet, "Candy Shop" - insists her team never tried to pass the song off as a collaborative piece, and believed producers Sold Out Entertainment asked permission to use Drake's rap.

In our first annual Top 50 Lesbian and Bi Characters poll, we asked you to vote for your favorite characters from film, television, and internet shows.
You cast your votes, and now we have the results. Before we reveal the winners, let's take a look at some of the trends that emerged.
Almost all of the characters were from films and television shows that made their debut after the year 2000. A few of the exceptions include Kerry Weaver from ER, and the ass-kicking ladies from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
While most of the characters were from Us productions, a fair amount came from international shows, including our top two characters (from the UK show Skins).
Also notable was the fact that some of your favorite characters, the leads from Xena: Warrior Princess (which ran from 1995-2001) and Idgie Threadgood from the film Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), were never officially presented as lesbian or bisexual.

Maybe some Guns N Roses? Black Sabbath? Iron Maiden? Heaven forbid, Lady Gaga?

MoviesOnline sat down with award-winning Scottish actor Ewan McGregor to talk about his new movie, The Ghost Writer, a taut, suspenseful thriller from the Oscar-winning director of The Pianist. The film also stars Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Williams and Kim Catrall.
A gifted author hired to ghostwrite the memoirs of a controversial former British Prime Minister becomes a hunted man when he uncovers explosive secrets about the past. The Ghost (McGregor) senses something’s not right from the minute he gets the lucrative assignment to complete Adam Lang’s (Brosnan) autobiography. For starters, the previous ghostwriter, a longtime aide to the ex-Prime Minister, is dead – an apparent suicide victim. As Lang becomes engulfed in a scandal over his administration’s harsh counterterrorism tactics, The Ghost digs into the charismatic politician’s past, discovering clues that he may be hiding something far more shocking than the current allegations against him.

One thing FlashForward and Lost have in common is actor Dominic Monaghan. Yes, one of the four Hobbits does make a credited appearance in both shows. Maybe Monaghan is considering jumping on the bandwagon for a show that necessarily must fill the gap as Lost enters its sixth and final season. FlashForward does not necessarily strive for the mantle of what has been called the best show on television, but the pretense is there. As Lost winds down, creators Brannon Braga (veteran Star Trek TV writer) and David S. Alongside Shane MacGowan, who has appeared in flicks and offered music to films like Grosse Pointe Blank, the participants include Chrissy Hynde (Michelle in Happy Feet), Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, Mick Jones of The Clash (and Socrates in Hell W10), composer, screenwriter, everythingman Nick Cave (The Proposition), and *drumroll* Johnny Depp. This is my "We Are the World." The talent in this cover was meant to go together, and I really dig Depp just chilling with the guitar as the rest of the folks belt out the lyrics.

On Thursday, the covers were taken off PlanetSolar, a multi-hulled vessel, powered entirely by up to 500 square metres of photovoltaic solar panels. It is considered to be the world's largest solar boat.
The 31-meter-long and 15-meter-wide craft is expected to be able capture 103.4 kW of solar energy to drive its engine which apparently only needs 20kW, to achieve an average speed of eight knots (15kph or 9mph). Although it is hoped it can also attain a top speed of roughly twice that. While it is impressive that the PlanetSolar can achieve all its propulsion with just sunlight, at those speeds the global circumnavigation planned for 2011 might take a wee while to complete.
The 60 tonne catamaran (or is that trimaran?) has cost 18 million euro ($24.4 million Usd) to create at the Knierim Yacht Club in Kiel in northern Germany and will be launched waterside next month with sea trials due between June and September.

It's been a while since we've heard actor Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting," "Moulin Rouge!") speak in his native Scottish accent, yet so much remains enigmatically unfamiliar about his nameless character known simply as "The Ghost" in director Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer." Adapted by former journalist Robert Harris from his own novel, this fantastically nutty political thriller stars McGregor as an apolitically minded punch-up artist assigned to finish the memoirs of a suddenly disgraced former British Prime Minister (Pierce Brosnan), currently stuck in American exile while awaiting war crime charges for his use of "heightened interrogation" procedures. Like many a Hitchcockian everyman ensnared by conspiracy, McGregor's "Ghost" soon realizes through his own cat-killing curiosities and investigation that he has every right to be paranoid. I met McGregor at the Waldorf Astoria to discuss government corruption, Polanski's eccentric working methods, the longest he's ever felt trapped somewhere, and why he'll likely never read this interview.

So, Dollhouse and Ugly Betty aren’t coming back. Both shows have been canceled and soon their respective casts will be just a bunch of unemployed actors. But before they start making those “Will Emote for Food” signs, how about we help them land their next gigs.
While I’m certain the talented casts of both shows will find gainful employment in no time, it can’t hurt to make a few suggestions. Short of each landing their own new series, many of these fine thespians would make a welcome addition to existing shows. Let’s recast a few.
America Ferrera on 30 Rock
America’s delightful comedy skills, not to mention her experience working in a crazy office, would make her a perfect match to join Liz Lemon. Maybe she could be a new NBC junior executive. Or a writer for The Girlie Show. Or just a new friend for Liz.

Taking it on the Chinn
Oscar-winning producer Simon Chinn was last week recalling the moment he took to the Kodak Theatre podium 12 months ago to collect the award for his superb documentary Man on Wire. He was joined by his director James Marsh and by the film's French star Philippe Petit. In an exclusive charity Q&A session, Chinn revealed to me some of the tensions behind the production but also some of the secrets of one of the great Oscar acceptances of all time. After a magic trick with a lucky coin, Petit, it will be remembered, then took the Oscar statue and balanced it on his chin as the music played to usher the winners off stage. "We had to ask special permission ahead of the awards for the Academy to allow Philippe up if we won," says Chinn.

Is "Nelena" the hot new couple? Nick Jonas and Selena Gomez have stepped out twice together this week! Tuesday night, the two (who reportedly dated in 2008 after his split from Miley Cyrus) hit Philippe restaurant in Beverly Hills for dinner. And although they were dining with a large group in the private wine room, a source tells E! News "they were by each other's side the whole night." Their first date was a little more low-key. After Nick did the "We Are The World" recording Monday night, the Disney duo went bowling together. So is it as serious as it seems? Maybe. "It's young and they're just feeling things out," a...

The tension between Reid and Luke increases as Luke and Noah’s relationship continues to falter, but will Reid agree to perform Noah’s surgery? Meanwhile, Luke gets some really bad news about Damian.
We take another peek at Forbidden Love as Christian and Olli’s new plot arc continues. But are things actually going anywhere with this couple or are they just treading water? Plus, Geoff and Pavel are at war on Raw,...

It’s billed as a movie, and even has an IMDb page, but this looks like a video-taped stage play, minus the live audience. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. After all, when Lars Von Trier did it with Dogville & Manderlay, we lauded him.
Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but these filmed Christian-themed stage plays seem to becoming all the rage these days, thanks in part to the ease in distribution that DVD and the web provide. I’ve seen quite a few trailers.
This one stars Robin Givens and Clifton Powell, and is directed by Emmbre Perry; notice how the DVD cover to the left emphasizes dude’s last name: Perry, in big bold letters. What do you think that’s about? By the way, they’re brothers.
The story goes… Stacy is a promiscuous 20-something woman who is quick to judge those around...

Welcome to a new edition of Gays of Our Lives. You don’t want to miss the clips from last week’s episodes that I’ve got in Gool Theater, as they are the stuff that good soaps are made of. Meanwhile, As the World Turns introduces snarky Dr. Reid Oliver and a new story arc for Luke and Noah. Does it have potential or is it dead on arrival?
Also, find out if the second episode of Raw is any better than the first and see what happens when Lucas asks Marco what he wants from him on the German version of Good Times, Bad Times.
How was Dr. Reid Oliver’s debut last week?
In Gool Scoops And Spoilers, Kyle and Oliver discover their lives are getting much more complicated by the baby drama on Oltl and Luke learns just how evil his bio-dad Damian can be on As the World Turns.

The last 24 hours have been rough for fans of Spider-Man. Not necessarily because of yesterday's news that Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire have abandoned the ship called Spider-Man 4, but because every blog has been filling its feed since the announcement with one Spidey-related post after another. I'm guilty of it, elsewhere and now here, where I'd like to roundup the best ideas for the future of the franchise, which Sony plans to reboot for a grittier, The Dark Knight-esque series, to begin in 2012.
Earlier today, Steven requested that the next Spidey movie not retell the character's beginning. "There are monks who have lived in silent seclusion for most of post-pubescence who can recite the Spider-Man origin story better than their Psalms," he wrote.
So if the studio is going to continue the franchise with the assumption all moviegoers are familiar with the origin, what direction should it go in?...

Press Tour, the bane of the Television Critics Association members' waistlines, kicks off again with panels on Saturday (Jan. 9) in Pasadena, Calif.
The networks and their dutiful stars come out for the biannual event not only to talk about the upcoming shows, but also to show off their duds (clothes, that is) and do a little publicist-approved partying.
Zap2it will be on hand from morning till late at night to bring you the latest info. Yes, it's a rough life we lead, but there are some perks. Here's a preview of what we're looking forward to for the TCA Winter 2010 Press Tour:
1. "Vampire Diaries" panel and "Bloody Mary" cocktails to follow - It's not up to "Twilight" levels yet, but we wouldn't be surprised if a few enterprising pre-teens crashed the Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley party. Plus, the cocktail session later allows us to mingle with the vamps...

There hasn’t been a serial horror story in quite some time. Probably John Saul’s Blackstone Chronicles is the most recent. But there is a new kid on the block now, Rick Florino’s Dolor, and this ain’t your mama’s serial horror.
Set in the mysterious town of Dolor, the ten-part series will unfold slowly, introducing the reader to Dolor’s various denizens as well as the town itself. Because from the beginning, with "Lila", the reader knows something has gone terribly wrong in Dolor; and as the ten diaries are read by an FBI agent investigating what happened in Dolor, the reader will also discover what happened and who (or what) might be responsible.
Dread Central recently had an opportunity to chat with the creator of Dolor: Lila (review here) and discovered that Rick Florino is something of an enfant terrible and an author people should take note of.

Helpless minds that stray in a direction far from its capable mass and souls that get eaten away by an urge that’s far more grateful than what it can handle: Four people, all dealing with these difficulties, plan to capture and secure the American Dream; fame and fortune. These four people – boyfriend and girlfriend (Jared Leto and Jennifer Connolly) who are drug addicts, their friend who’s both seller and addict (Marlon Wayans) and Leto’s mother (Ellen Burnstein) who’s losing her grip on reality – all have in mind that the American dream should be spoon-fed to them. Dreams that include being on television, owning a fashion shop and living like rock-stars are all bogged down by each of the dreamer’s economic situation or their appearance.

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
With the last name of Schwartz, it's no doubt that my Sick Day Stash preference happens to be "Spaceballs." After having "May the Schwartz be with you!" screamed at me by seven year olds on my school bus for weeks on end, I knew it was time to send my mother to the video store and get my first taste of Mel Brooks. And yes, I was young enough to still be single digits in the 90s.

Previously on "FlashForward:" S.P. actually sorta liked an episode, which was extremely short lived.
We open on the lady who gave Demetri the good news about his murder as she watches A Christmas Carol at her desk. At work. Very intensely. Then the camera pans over to her window where she, like NotRalph, brandishes her own mosaic board. Neat.
And speak-of-the-Mongoloid, he and Demetri land in Hong Kong to look for said lady, 'cause as NotRalph astutely surmises, "How many Western Persian-speaking women with that kind of accent can there be in Hong Kong?" I don't know, NotRalph, but it's still fucking Hong Kong.
Then, after a random threat from a Hong Kong agent named Marshall Vogel (who knows what was up his butt), NotRalph enjoys a lovely conversation with Stan who's a titch angry at the boys for disregarding his orders. Then, acting in complete accordance with all human reactions,...

Directed by: Oren Moverman
Cast: Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton
Running Time: 1 hr 45 min
Rating: R
Release Date: December 4, 2009
Plot: Sergeant Will Montgomery (Foster) and Sergeant Anthony Stone (Harrelson) are the “angels of death” task force charged with notifying army families after a soldier dies in battle. That is the surface plot–the underlying plots involve coping with grief and loneliness, connecting with other human beings, and coming to terms with life-changing trauma.
Who’S It For? Everyone. Anyone who can see an R movie should see this film.
Expectations: I’d not heard of it and I figured it had to be tolerable, because I always expect good things from Woody.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Ben Foster as Will Montgomery: Who? I thought to myself, going into the film. I looked him up–some movies in production now and…30 Days of Night. So far, not good. But Montgomery is spectacular.

My question for you is how big? —Anna Ausiello: So big that I hear Cuddy will be sharing her bed with two different people by the end of the hour. Question: I feel an urge to poison my liver with a bottle of 150-buck Russian vodka after the rumor I just heard regarding episode 14 of House. Cuddy and Lucas are going to have sex?...
