Before Dolly Parton met her current husband, Carl Dean, she had a handful of boyfriends. She had many admirers, even in her years before fame. One of Parton’s ex-boyfriends said she was an incredibly positive person to date.
Dolly Parton’s ex described her personality when they dated
When Parton and her Uncle Bill tried to get her music career off the ground, they traveled to radio stations in their local area. At one of them, she met Bobby Denton, with whom she would go on a few dates.
“I remember one time we did a swimming party and show at Whittle Springs and Dolly and Bill came out,” Denton recalled in the book Dolly by Alanna Nash. “When they did ‘What’d I Say,’ Dolly hit the high notes fine, but Bill sang flatter than a pancake. After that I got to be friends with her, and we had a few dates.

Dolly Parton has acted in multiple movies and started her own production company. In her youth, though, she didn’t have many opportunities to go to the movies. According to one person she dated before fame, she was unable to maintain focus through a movie.
Dolly Parton was always loud at the movies
While still in school, Parton began to develop her music career. She recorded songs she worked on with her uncle and even got some airtime on local radio stations. At this stage of her career she met Bobby Denton, an operations director at a radio station. The pair hit it off and went on several dates.
For years, Parton has been a bubbly, joyful public figure. Denton said she has always been this way, which sometimes made dates difficult.

John Lennon said that Elvis Presley grew to disappoint him. Before this, though, he idolized the American artist. Lennon listened to Elvis as a child and took early inspiration from him. After The Beatles met Elvis in 1965, Lennon sent Elvis a message to express how much he meant to him. Here’s how Elvis responded to his words.
John Lennon sent a message to Elvis Presley
In 1965, The Beatles met Elvis at his Bel Air home. They had been trying to meet him for a long time and finally succeeded.
“We were always in the wrong place at the wrong time to meet him, and we would have just gone round or something, but there was a whole lot of palaver about where we were going and how many people should go and everything, with the managers Colonel Tom and Brian working everything out,” Lennon said in The Beatles Anthology.

Elton John said Elvis Presley’s “Hound Dog” was one of the two records that completely changed his life. The other was by another 1950s rock ‘n’ roll singer. John also revealed what he thought about Elvis’ looks. He had a similar reaction to Elvis that he had to Marilyn Monroe.
Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’ was 1 of the 1st songs Elton John’s mom bought that he loved
During a 1973 interview with Rolling Stone, John was asked if his musical career began with his band Bluesology. “Actually it all started when I became old enough to listen to records, because my mother and father collected records and the first records I ever heard were Kay Starr and Billy May and Tennessee Ernie Ford and Les Paul and Mary Ford and Guy Mitchell,” he said. I grew up in that era. I was three or four when I first started listening to records like that.

Tony Bennett, the treasured American storyteller, singer and showman whose joyful impact on the pop and jazz landscape spanned 70 years and stretched from Queens to San Francisco and all around the world, died Friday. He was 96.
Bennett died in his hometown of New York, his publicist Sylvia Weiner said. In February 2021, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease five years earlier, but he soldiered on, in the recording studio and on tour, rarely performing a song the same way twice.
He and Lady Gaga headlined two shows at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in August 2021, after which he announced he was canceling his fall tour.
On his Facebook page, it was noted Friday that Bennett was “still singing the other day at his piano, and his last song was ‘Because of You.'” That was his first No. 1 hit.

Bob Dylan discussed his thoughts about The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black” and a Beatles song. He said “Paint It Black” was a very bleak song. In addition, he said he could see The Beatles’ song in his mind’s eye.
Bob Dylan compared The Rolling Stones’ ‘Paint It Black’ to The Beatles’ ‘Paperback Writer’
The Beatles’ “Paperback Writer,” The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” and Frank Sinatra’s “Strangers in the Night” were all popular around the same time in 1966. During a 2022 interview on Dylan’s website, he was asked if 2022 was similar to the time when those three songs were on the pop charts.
“What’s the gold standard for a song these days?” he said. “What song will walk off with the trophy? ‘Paint it Black’ is black as black can be, black as a crow’s head, a galvanizing song. ‘Paperback Writer’ sounds good, too. The biographer,...

Wes Anderson’s latest endeavor Asteroid City is making its crash-landing into theaters this Friday, June 23rd, and it has a fitting soundtrack to match. As a preview, Jarvis Cocker has shared one of his contributions to the film called “Dear Alien (Who Art In Heaven),” a single he wrote with Anderson and his former Pulp bandmate Richard Hawley. The song also features Seu Jorge, who was prominently featured on the soundtrack for Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.
Considering Asteroid City takes place in a desert town in 1955, the soundtrack comes chock-full of period-setting tunes like classic bluegrass and country as well as mid-century pop. Along with a couple of originals from Cocker are songs by Bing Crosby, The Springfields (featuring a young Dusty Springfield), Burl Ives, Tex Ritter, and many more, as well as a score by Alexandre Desplat.

The race to be top of the British singles chart at Christmas has been an annual event every December since 1952.
On Friday 23, LadBaby broke a record they were previously tied for with The Beatles, achieving their fifth consecutive Christmas No 1.
The Beatles had been top of the tree since 1967 with a record four Christmas number ones, although that was equalled last year when LadBaby claimed their fourth win in four years with an offering called “Sausage Rolls for Everyone”.
LadBaby have now vaulted to the top with their fifth No 1, “Food Aid”.
The Spice Girls also notched an impressive three consecutive victories in the mid-Nineties, while Sir Cliff Richard also has a hat-trick to his name.
LadBaby, Aka Mark and Roxanne Hoyle, are actually having another crack at it in 2022, with the help of ever popular money-saving guru Martin Lewis, who, rather suprisingly, is joining them for a chairty cover...

In 1968, Tammy Wynette recorded one of her signature songs, the Bobby Braddock-Curly Putman classic, “D-i-v-o-r-c-e.” Serving as the title tune from Wynette’s third solo LP, the single — as well as the album — topped the charts, and would prove prophetic as Wynette’s second husband, songwriter Don Chapel, filed for divorce from the singer in October 1968.
While Wynette’s subsequent albums, beginning with 1969’s Stand By Your Man, would often feature her songwriting efforts, D-i-v-o-r-c-e consisted of several contemporary cover songs, including an “answer” version to the Bobby Goldsboro crossover hit “Honey,...

Norman Lear- Just Another Version of You
By Eddy Friedeld
The first two people in my life who taught me to think deeply about social and political issues and argue cogently and passionately for what I believed in were my late father David and Norman Lear.
Lear, the 94-year-old entertainment icon is the subject of a terrific American Masters documentary: Norman Lear- Just Another Version of You, which premieres nationwide Tuesday, October 25, 9-10:30 p.m. on PBS.
Speaking from his home in Los Angeles about both the documentary and his masterful 2014 autobiography, Even This I Get to Experience, he still has an energy level that would put people a quarter of his age to shame.
“People think when you’re over 90 you’ve changed. It’s everyone else who’s changed. Suddenly I’m extremely wise,” Lear says. Charming and reflective, he explains why he wears the...

We can’t sign off for the long weekend without saluting the men and women who put the labor into Labor Day. There’s been no shortage of songs written about the drudgery of working 9-to-5, and below, here’s a list of the 15 finest songs (oops, that just reminded us that we didn’t include R.E.M.’s “Finest Worksong”) devoted to describing how we spend most of our lives. So clock out, grab a beer, salute your fellow worker, and enjoy. And, if it’s not too much work, add your favorite song about work in the comments. 1. “9 to 5,” Dolly Parton (1980) A deceptively upbeat melody and Parton’s sweet delivery run counter to the dark sentiment of such lyrics as “Barely getting by/It’s all takin’ and no givin’/they just use your mind/and they never give you credit.” 2. “She Works Hard For The Money,...

They are among almost 3,000 guests who have appeared on the radio program "Desert Island Discs," a British broadcasting institution that turned 70 on Sunday.
The show's simple format hasn't changed since 1942: Ask an illustrious or famous figure to choose the eight pieces of music they would take with them to a deserted isle, and talk about what the tracks mean to them. Willie Nelson's upcoming album will feature classic covers of country songs from the 1950s. Chicago — Jessy Dixon, a singer and songwriter who introduced his energetic style of gospel music to wider audiences by serving as pop singer Paul Simon's opening act, died Monday. He was 73.
Miriam Dixon said her brother died Monday morning at his Chicago home. She said he had been sick but declined to provide additional details.
During a more than 50-year career, Dixon wrote songs for several popular singers, including jazz and rhythm and blues singer Randy Crawford. He later wrote songs performed by Cher, Diana Ross, Natalie Cole and Amy Grant.
But it was for his gospel singing – religious music that combined the rhythmic beat of blues, jazz and soul – that Dixon first gained attention. It was during an appearance at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1972 with his Jessy Dixon Singers that Dixon first came to Simon's attention. For the next eight years, Dixon toured with the pop icon,...
