When Nandu is told the bitter truth, he leaves the town, joins the army, with the hope that her uncle will consider him suitable enough to get Kamli married to him. After training, he gets 21 days leave and returns home triumphantly - only to find that Kamli has been married. Dejected, he returns back to the army to try and forget Kamli - only to find that his superior officer, Hav. Ram Singh is Kamli's husband. Now Nandu has to decide whether to quit the army and re-locate elsewhere in order to forget Kamli.
- During the British Raj of the 1930s, a prison-doctor falls in love with a convict who eventually reveals the story of her past and her connection to a freedom fighter.
- While studying in medical college Arun Kumar Mathur (Shashi Kapoor) has a misunderstanding over a love letter with Kavita Kapoor (Sadhana), and must leave the college, much to his dismay. Kavita later finds out that it was not Arun's fault, but Arun has already left town. Arun's marriage is arranged with Saroj Chowdhary (Seema Deo), who also happens to be a distant relative of Kavita. When Arun loses his vision in an accident, Saroj is unable to go to take care of him, and Kavita takes her place. Unwilling to reveal her identity, Kavita let's him think it is Saroj, not her. She learns that he still hates and despises her. Soon it will be time to take bandages off his eyes, and he will be able to see again, much to the dread of Kavita.
- A joint family consisting of four brothers, their wives, and their respective children, living under one roof. Some of the brothers are professionls, one a lawyer, a doctor, and others businessmen. They are a happy family, living and sharing each other's joys and sorrows. Then one day, an arguement breaks out over a glass of milk, and the entire family is thrown into chaos, and the only resolution seems to be nothing but dividing the entire property amongst the brothers and their respective families.
- Manish, a college professor, takes in Chaitali, a thief, and offers to support her in living an honest life. Chaitali lies that she is a widow when she isn't even married since she is the daughter of a fugitive and is brought up as a courtesan by her protective stepmother. She lies to hide her background, which leads to more lies. Manish's brother Avinash is a lawyer practicing from home, and his bedridden wife Prabha accuses Chaitali of stealing a valuable necklace to which Chaitali quickly confesses. Before that, Chaitali, Manish, and his mother had visited their family Guru for his guidance where Chaitali had revealed her life story to Manish. Out on the streets, she takes up dancing, which Manish misinterprets as her slap on his generosity. She decides to return money for the stolen necklace with earnings from her dancing but this is interpreted as arrogance and she is thrown out of the house. Soon, Avinash tells the truth to Manish as to why Chaitali confessed to stealing the jewelry.
- A wealthy man, suspected of murder, is killed before he can be arrested. Everyone in his household is under suspicion. A private investigator looks into the case and finds himself falling in love with one of the suspects.
- Niravan (Nazir Hussain), the village postmaster receives an envelope with a cheque for a very large amount, with the instructions that he is to turn this cheque over to the most honest man in the village. Honest Niravan calls a village meeting and informs them of this outcome. They mutually agree that there are five people in the village who can be called honest, however, since the stipulation states that the amount is to be turned to only one, they decide to hold elections in the village, so that everyone can decide who the most honest man is. The outcome is hilarious as all the five prominent people bend over backwards not only to be honest and caring, but also be seen to be honest and caring. The village doctor starts treating all patients regardless of their ability to pay him; the village money-lender starts forgiving loans; the wealthy zamindar allows everyone to drink water from his property; the village priest allows the untouchables to worship in the temple. Can these people be trusted with a large sum of money? Can Niravan be trusted with this money, as he has his own liabilities, a large sum he owes to money-lenders, as well as provide dowry for the forthcoming marriage of his daughter, Seema (Sadhana).
- A high caste Brahmin household adopts an orphaned lower caste girl, but when a young man from their caste wishes to marry her without knowing her lineage, caste differences flare up again.
- Comic, tragic, and heartrending saga of Ratan Kumar Chaudhary (Kishore Kumar), who leaves his village, aging mom, and seriously ill sister, to obtain employment in Calcutta, only to end up in a tiny tenement apartment full of other unemployed youths. He falls in love with Seema (Sheila Ramani) who lives in the building opposite his, and she too falls in love with him. Her father will not permit her to marry an unemployed youth, and wants her to marry someone known to him. Ratan receives an employment offer from a firm in Bombay, and travels there, only to have his wallet stolen by a pickpocket (Mehmood), and ends up in jail for being a suspect himself. He reports for employment and is hired. He sends for Seema, and she leaves her family for Ratan. By the time Seema reaches Bombay, Ratan has lost his job, and is forced to lie to Seema. Why did Ratan lose his job?
- A man and his assistant go on a business trip, which results in a comedy of errors.
- A dying man entrusts his lives earnings to Purshotam, a stranger he just met, and asks him to promise to take this money to his wife, and son, Pradeep, in a remote village in India, to which Purshotam agrees. The man passes away, and Purshotam goes to fulfill his promise, in vain though, as he is unable to trace the woman and her son. After sometime he experiences financial difficluties, and decides to use the money for his personal gain. Years later he comes to know of the rightful heir to these monies, but will he able to assert his honesty, or will he carry on as though nothing has happened?
- Anwar lives with his brother, Nawab, the Nawab's wife, and their child, in a wealthy upper class neighborhood. Anwar is in love with Shahida, and would like to marry her. The Nawab has a mistress named Benazir, who he goes to see on a regular basis. Shauket, a friend of the family, tells Nawab that Anwar is also seeing Benazir whenever the Nawab is not around. Nawab is shocked at this, but he witnesses Benazir herself in Anwar's arms, and is enraged. The question remains, if Anwar is in love with Shahida, why he is having an affair with his brother's mistress?
