Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy may be getting another stab at TV fame through Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service.
A Muppets reboot is said to be in the works at Disney, per THR.com. This comes almost two years after ABC cancelled the mockumentary-style The Muppets reboot in 2016 after just one season. Disney is currently looking for writers for the show.
The unnamed streaming service, which will also launch with a live-action Star Wars and a High School Musical series, is expected to arrive in late 2019.

Man, the True Detective cast is really big this season! Looking forward to it!
Wish The Muppets reboot was on Netflix. Not sure I want to pay for another streaming service.
I couldn’t agree with you more. I wonder what this means for Hulu since Disney does own a piece of it and if it merges with FOX it will have morethen it’s current share
Hulu is where Disney will put any R-rated movies, and possibly the Fox TV programming. –Mgmt https://tvline.com/2018/02/08/star-wars-tv-series-disney-streaming-service-2019/
Same here! I was grinning as I read “Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy may be getting another stab at TV fame through…” but then read, “…Disney’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service”, and the grin disappeared.
While I understand why it didn’t take off, I liked the ABC series and was disappointed when it was canceled.
New Who logo looks sharp and modern. I think it’s a good update.
Agreed! I looked up the other logos on a Wiki and have to say that as a static logo, I like this new one best of all of them. I wonder if or how they will animate the new logo during the opening credits though….
.
(Anyone else interested in side-by-side comparisons, just do a Google search on “Doctor Who logopedia”.)
i’ll always be a fan of the diamond logo from the 70s when pertwee/baker ruled.
Too me it looks too Fantasy and not SciFi enough
But will Kermit and Miss Piggy be together in this one?
I sure hope so.
The best thing you could do with the Muppets is just make it a variety show – like it used to be – and not try to mess with the characters. It’s ok to ‘update it for modern audiences’ – the mockumentary style might have worked if it was just a way of presenting to the audience the variety show that always existed.
I HATE the mockumentary format. “Behind the scenes” is fine, but why on earth would a documentarian spend so much time and money following people (so to speak) on errands or on dates or all their personal non-work stuff?
Why don’t you ask the E! Network, Oxygen, Bravo..
What does what they do on those shows have to do with “behind the scenes of a TV presentation”?
Indeed, that’s why I said ‘if it was just a way of presenting the variety show’
Hire Frank Oz and get out of his way. Let muppets be muppets and stop trying to make them “cool”
This. So much. The original Muppet Show is one of my favourite things, ever. Why mess with that format? It worked then, and I believe it could work now. I know I’d watch it!
I hope that the newest Muppet Show echoes the classic show – a selection of “variety” acts and skits, along with celebrity guests.
Let’s hope they title it ‘The Super Muppet Telethon’.
