Messages posted here will be replied on this talk page unless requested otherwise. Messages I leave on your talk page should be replied there unless requested otherwise. I do this to keep conversations organized.
Please be civil and cool when posting messages. I'm probably one of the nicest editors there is around, and I do like to help people, but please don't harass or provoke me. I won't retalliate, I'll merely revert. That being said, feel free to ask me any questions you have, just be civil, and don't personally attack other editors.
Please note that I archive talk page posts every-so-often when my talk page reaches about 40 threads, so if commenting on an old thread that is gone from my talk page, I have archived it. Consider starting a new thread.
My apologies, it is not as complex as I thought it was. Most words used (except "younger", although "young" is) are on the 1000 word list, but I was looking at the BE 850 word list, of which many are not a member of. I have now re-removed the tag.
Note to helpers: once you have offered help, please remove this template or replace it with {{helped}}.
Hey all,
Just need a bit of help please! In my .js I have defined some custom Vandal Warner templates. I want to use the standard form of "Date Year" rather than anything else for the level 2 header on talk pages. So, I used {{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}} which seemed to do the job at first. However, that is now what appears in edit summaries, although the headlines do work correctly... any ideas?
Thank you for strongly supporting me in my WP:RFA which passed with 15 supports and no opposes. I appreciate your confidence in me a lot. The barnstar may not mean much to you, but your support did to me, thanks. Yotcmdr=talk to the commander=09:00, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, well firstly, I think we should leave the pools until everyone has entered and then sort them out randomly. I'd also be interested in becoming a Judge - i'd be no good participating... i'd lose!
Can I spruce up the page a little? And branch it out? And eventually WP: space it? (I think it will work!)
And also, have you designed the cup, or shall I do it? I'm pretty good with Photoshop/GIMP ;)
Ok, for the pools, randomly is good (its just tempory, as an example). You can become a judge for sure (Even if I think you would be quite good at it!). Go ahead make a few twiches to the page if you want. However, when we first tried to do it (and we never came round to doin it, as Shapiros10 no longer wanted to) we didn't have it in WP space. Maybe ask a crat or just have it on Simpl Talk. No I haven't designed the cup yet, so go ahead. (And please let me see it before we make it official!). Thanks. Yotcmdr=talk to the commander=22:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okie Dokie ;) I'll probably just re-make it in my userspace and then ask you first, and it won't be for a few days (too busy). I'll mention it at ST but i'm all for being bold and just doing it... it depends what mood i'm in! And of course i'll show it you first - i'm not trying to steal your thunder!!! Thanks, BG7even22:11, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe very good ;) I think i'll make a .gif at some stage as well that we can spam our userpages with ;). On the subject of admin it might be good if you could do a history merge of my page and the current one when i've done it ;).
Same here, but it's half ten ;). And your sig rhymes! BTW: Can I do an SN article on it for the next issue? I have yet to write mine!!! (Projects like this are like my thing... DYK for example ;) ) BG7even22:26, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I honestly don't mind... if it's moved now it would create redirects and stuff... i dunno. It's probably easier for me to make changes to the live page... but that could mean broken things going live. I dunno... it's up to you - it's your project! See you later, BG7even22:31, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've just thought, we could have updates of the wikicup results on SN (and I really think after christmas, we should have SN every two weeks). Ans also, how should we advertise entry for the wikicup? (Main page, Recent changes template, messages to active users...? Anyway, It'll get metionned in your next article on SN, 13 december). YotcmdrSign up for the wikicup=talk=19:12, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ;) It will probably still need some more tweaking, especially as i'm not sure how many browsers it's compatible on (i'm aware of an issue with the Dashboard in Internet Explorer so far).
Hi, I moved it back to the next issue for a number of reasons. Shapiros10 is already in the QandA section, and so it would be a bit "biased" if he was also on the name part ;) I'm also going to do two users at a time as I don't geel we can get enough out of it for one whole section from one person!
You're welcome ;). I'm now just holding off delivery until I hear from Kennedy about Shapiros10's QandA, otherwise i'm going to need some filler content... got anything? BG7even12:21, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry ;) I wasn't really thinking of anything in particular. I'm going to run out of time for delivery soon, so I might just add a seasonal image.
You need a QandA. I'd be happy to give an interview now to be published in this issue. If you reply, I'll go on IRC, or send me an e-mail. QandA is an important addition to Simple News and if you need one desperately, I'll let you interview me now. --Gwib -(talk)-14:05, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Gwib,
Thanks for the offer!
I'd need to do it via email as IRC, MSN, Skype etc are all blocked by my school's proxy server.
It's Kennedy's section, but he hasn't replied to the message that I sent him on his talk page (I don't doubt that he is very busy!) so I suppose it would be ok.
Just thought i'd add that it will be delivered at 4UTC/GMT at the latest, else it will have to wait until Monday as I doubt I will be around tomorrow (or else it will have to be manually delivered). Thanks, BG7even15:03, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks ;) I've also replied (but I won't keep mentioning it here!). My mailbox is also open, auto-download every 2 minutes and then it pings me ;). I'm writing it up as we go along, so once we're done it'll be there!
If we can get it done before I have to go at 430, then yes we will. I was going to keep both actually, i'll probably move it into a central section below the rest of it ;).

QandA
The QandA. Every month, Kennedy will interview one of Simple English Wikipedia's editors, asking them about themselves, and their opinions on Wikipedia. It is an exciting insight behind the anonymous face of an online username. Las month we debuted with Microchip08. Due up next was Shapiros10 but due to uncontrollable circumstances we have had to postpone this to next month. Instead, Bluegoblin7 takes the reigns and interviews Gwib, who kindly volunteered to keep the section in this issue. Click for his interview:
Well, I'm not too sure it'd be as suspenseful for bystanders. The more countries, the more editors, the more suspense!
Also, it's bound to run at least a little parallel, since we're scoring the same stuff with the same criteria and elimination layout. But yeah, I agree with the sentiment about making entry to the Nations Cup entirely optional. --Cheers,Gp75motorsportsREV LIMITER21:19, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe ;) I might compete next year :P. One comment though, this is going all out of proportion. People are forgetting what the cup is about - improving the wiki. I'm this close to just being very bold and saying "No, we're sticking with the editors cup only". Also, it can only happen if, imo, we have 8 teams by December 31st, else it won't be worthwhile.
Actually, from everything i've seen it is a lot out of proportion. I'm not strongly against it, and i'm proposing that we dont have it. People are losing the point of it - its to make the wiki better, not about teams, countries or anything like that. This cup is causing more dramaz than DYK did if you ask me. BG7even13:45, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps but also people might make small, stupid edits rather than using the preview button to view their work. That's one big flaw i've just found. The editor's cup will happen, but the Nations... well, it's just stupid and pointless. I am just finishing a proposal to close, and there are several good arguments on IRC that will come on wiki once my proposal is written.
Also, can you explain this? The page is fully protected for a reason - that doesn't mean that just because you are a sysop you can spam the user... BG7even13:52, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I don't see that as a good reason i'm afraid. What if this was last month and you didn't have the flag? What would you have done then? What if I wanted to send him a message? Why not use the email function? BG7even13:58, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(reset)Ok, I'll try and keep my composure. If I didn't have the flag, I would have waited. It might of created controversy, he might of complained and retired because nobody would care to tell him. But I do have the flag. I used the opportunity, to try and be helpful. Why didn't I E-mail him? Do you want to know the truth? I might have my flag removed, be despised, and everything else: the reason is I don't know, and didn't look to know how. It was just seemingly easier to leave that notice on his page with the off chance he might see it before the 31st of December. Anyway, I'm not thinking of retiring, even if I feel like it at this precise moment. YotcmdrSign up for the wikicup=talk=14:07, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm... I think perhaps just a "Happy New Year" notice would work better - or we could bring the first issue after New Year forward by two weeks? I don't mind, either is fine me, I just don't think an actual "issue" would work... but if there is content for it at the submissions page then yes, by all means we can have one!
Ok. Well, i'll have a look at how the dates work out, I might be able to incorporate one between now and the next issue around New Year. Either way, GBot won't be able to deliver from the 29th December until the 11th January, as I will be on a computer free wikibreak!
Hmmm... I suppose one on the 28th would work quite nicely. I'll sketch something up tomorrow that's like a short thing. A nice feature might be 2009 predictions from different editors, both on wiki and in RL. It could also be their plans for the 2009 year. I'd be happy to participate (in fact, id like too!). Cheers, BG7even23:16, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Merry Christmas
Bluegoblin7, I hope that you have a very Merry Christmas 2008 as well, and that Santa brings you everything you want :P too! If you are going away anywhere, have a great time, and whatever else you do I really hope you enjoy it! And good luck in judging the wikicup!
Thanks! Too bad you stole my design :P (joking, your welcome - i'm going to jazz it up for next year!). And thanks for the good luck ;) P.S. You might want to change your sig - the linky has changed! BG7even22:06, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I couldn't be bothered to make a new design, I thought may as well use yours (I'll design another one for Xmas day)! I've updated the link to the wikicup! I'll try and have a wikibreak aroud christmas (but I can't promise, it's just so tempting every time I see a computer!). YotcmdrSign up for the wikicup=talk=22:11, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
