Apology

I wholeheartedly apologize for mentioning you in comments on my RfA and I fully understand why you removed your support. I honestly did not intend to cause you offence, I was just annoyed that often there are double standards in many things on Wikipedia including RfA's, RfD's and PGA/PVGAs to a certain extent. Even so that was not enough reason to include another user in my comments, so once again I sincerely apologize for mentioning you in comments. It won't happen again. FSM Noodly? 18:00, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for leaving me a message. I didn't want to go as far as an oppose as I still think you would be a good admin. Just cannot support just now, perhaps in a few months. Regards, Grant Kennedy (talk) 18:30, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help!

Hi, Kennedy,

Thank you for your advise about static electricity. But, i don't know what I have to change my article. Can you give me a advise and give me one more chace to change the article? thank you reading. User:Gkst41x

Hi Kennedy,

Thanks for the DYK box that you made - I have opted to use it in my proposal (although I am looking into making some modifications to improve useability!). As part of this, I would like the box to be full width across the page, but I can't figure out to do it! It is at User:Bluegoblin7/DYK/Template:Did you know.

Thanks,

BG7even 16:03, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bluegoblin! Sorry I am not sure. I have tried but it doesn't seem to work for me. Truth be told I stole the code and modified it a little. It could be a good idea asking someone like User:RyanCross who seems to be rather good with things like this... Sorry I could not help more, but I am glad you have decided to use my example and expand on it, as I really don't have the time to do it. :) Kennedy (talk) 18:22, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks anyway! I will ask Ryan, we've worked together in the past and get on quite well :D.
Thanks,

Qd on article

Hi there sorry about that. Not really up on the policies yet. Also could you copy the Azatoth monobooks over from wikipedia to do with Twinkle. I asked in the userscripts on IRC last night and asked if I could and they said that I could copy it but because I am not an admin I cant edit the monobooks. WashingManwithwings (talk) 10:07, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you mean this? You don't need to edit his. You can edit yours though... Just copy paste what you need. Kennedy (talk) 14:18, 17 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK?

Hi Kennedy!

Your way of listing hooks looks good... feel free to put it on the working copy of the final proposal in my userspace. This really is a community project!

BG7even 10:09, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I got a message from you about some changes to the page "Cat".

I am a bit confused. The change I made to the Cat page was to fix a typo, a sentence had the word "cat" where it should have had the word "can". Are you saying I should not make these kinds of changes?

Or perhaps you confused me with the person who came after me. That person put in some very nasty comments about throwing a cat out a window. I completely understand you don't want that kind of text on a page, but please be assured that this was not me. The history of the page shows it was someone at IP Address 92.43.66.11.

Please see here for my reply Kennedy (talk) 19:58, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, great, thanks. - Gene [[[Special:Contributions/66.93.188.148|66.93.188.148]] (talk) 02:10, 21 October 2008 (UTC)][reply]

Your joke - not funny or appropriate

Just to let you know quite emphatically that I think your joke edit was out of line any time anywhere on any wikipedia project. It is inappropriate behaviour and out of line with Wikipedia policy - this is an encyclopaedia - some humour may be appropriate - but your "joke" was over the line and in my view gave mixed messages to a vulnerable editor. It is particularly strange given you were running for adminship at the time and moreover you had "adopted" that user. Don't you think that adoption means taking some care of the user - not using him as a figure of fun? Even if you had used another user's name - mocking sockpuppet tags is not funny. Now that you have the tools, you need to demonstrate more mature behaviour. --Matilda (talk) 21:12, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NO. You've given your opinion, he's read it. He's given his reasons, and said sorry. Stop beating a dead horse. This is pathetic, you're spreading pointless despicable conflict from ST to talk pages.
What reasons do you have for chastising him? He's said sorry, knows he's in the wrong and you've said so already. Don't reply, Kennedy. Please, don't reply. --Gwib -(talk)- 21:17, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry Gwib, I will offer Matilda a personal explanation as she, for whatever reason, clearly needs one. Heres the deal: Myself, and User:Microchip08 have been in the past joking around, "vandalising" each others userpages. For example

Microchip's Page

He has of course responded with his own versions of vandalism. At most of these edits, we were both on IRC, further enjoying the joke. No-one was harmed until my joke was not as widely appreciated as I would have thought. As I said, as his mentor/adopter, I felt I was on good enough terms with him at the time, that he would perhaps enjoy the hilarity also. Unfortunately not, and it was reverted by SH, as he was "a little insult[ed]" I apologised, he said okay. As far as I was aware, the issue was closed. No further "vandalism" was made, and the issue was dropped. SH has not made any further complaints, and no-one else has complained until now. The fact that I am an admin, or was running for admin at the time, has absolutely nothing to do with this. The only person who continues to have an issue is yourself. Contrary to your opinion, a little light hearted humour is very much allowed, especially as it was a mutual joke, in good faith. Neither myself, nor User:Microchip08 has done anything "wrong", and I apologise to him for dragging his name into this discussion. Now, I would consider this issue to be closed, as I have fully explained my actions. As Gwib says, this is pathetic, and I have had to go against Gwib's recommendation to defend myself. I suggest you drop this now. Unless there is something else you wish to bring up? Kennedy (talk) 09:03, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject:Video games

Hi, I have found your name on the project page User:A Link to the Past/WikiProject Video games. I have an interest in this topic myself and have done much work on wiki articles related to video games so I have added my name to the list and I have started a vote on Wikipedia:Simple talk to have the project approved and moved out to its proper place WP:Video games. I am announcing this to all members and asking you to come and vote your support if possible. G Luck ~ R.T.G 02:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kennedy, I would appreciate input on this. The user doesn't seem to understand my argument that there is no consensus nor enough activity for such a project at the moment, and that the only way it can/will happen is a large amount of users, say 10, who are regularly active and there is no chance of the project going dormant. Thanks, BG7even 10:30, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There has been a bit of simplification. I see one broken template and no broken images? I will be simplifying it more soon though. Kennedy (talk) 08:56, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

my first ever wikipedia page, wiped away !

Hey, I just saw that my wikipedia page for the 'dot com bubble' got deleted by you. No problem. I will actually take that as a compliment because that means that my money terms must have been more grownup than I gave myself credit for! At least in clarifying it I was able to get a better understanding of it for myself. I was hoping to be able to help out a bit with the simple english wikipedia on finances and economics because I have had to learn about those things as though explained to a 2 year old & I have a business myself (the only way I was able to begin to understand money matters etc) and I have been told that I can explain very well so I thought Id give it a try. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.102.99 (talkcontribs)

Kennedy- naw don't worry about undeleting that page. I wouldn't know how to further simplify it. Although, the reason I discovered it had been deleted in the first place was because I was still editing and further simplifying it, but I suppose that's what the sandbox is for. I'll get the hang of it eventually.

:)

thanks! I might actuallly get a user id etc. Its 4am here so I'm gonna hit the sack.

Article Simplification Request

Hello, Kennedy. Initially I wrote this request to R'Flam, but he does'nt respond anything. He seemed to be inactive! But anyway, could you kindly consider to write this article which based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afro-Asian ? Just to simplify it, cause I did'nt understand it very well! If you have a time to do that, please simplify that article cause I want to know more about them! But please don't stay quiet as long as Razorflame did. User space

Re [1] I disagree that firstly those from IP address have userspace in the same sense that registered users do - WP:USER infers registered users only - and second that it is not a test edit -all the signs of a test edit --Matilda (talk) 09:14, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Matilda, Yes I noticed after I removed the QD tag that it was an IP which should not have a user page. However, I would argue that it was not a test edit. It appeared to me that he simply created a user page, and said you can contact him at his talk page. He basically created a soft redirect. I will not argue with the IP user page though, and am deleting... ...now! Regards, Kennedy (talk) 09:20, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I may do. If it has been simplified, then I may keep it. I don't delete them too often though. I may delete them even if there is no QD tag. If you want to give me an example I can let you know in more detail. Regards, Kennedy (talk) 08:55, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Badgering

I'm guessing it's Djsasso and Gwib. Gwib claims that Matilda has a COI, and then refuses to elaborate on why he thinks she has a COI. He doesn't feel like he needs to explain why, even though Matilda says she does not fit the traditional definition, and then Gwib avoids answering it by accusing her of wikihounding him. [2] He assumes that we think the same as we do and that it's quite obvious that Matilda has a COI. COI is one of the most serious accusations one can level against another editor, and such a claim needs to be backed up and explained thoroughly, rather than leave us grasping at straws as to how Matilda might have a COI. I do not think such an accusation can just be flung and then expect the accused to simply throw up his or her hands and say, "Fine, you think so, I'm not going to protest."

As for Djsasso, he offered speculation as to what sort of COI Gwib is thinking about, and Matilda is engaging in debate over that. Djsasso also offered something that requires discussion. Is asking to elaborate and explain this thought process behind the claim "badgering"? The claim is contentious and Matilda deseves to be able to ask questions and clarify why they think so. alexandra (talk) 09:47, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh. No, asking questions is not badgering. Following an editor over several pages to continue to ask questions demanding an answer is. Gwib said he will not elaborate any further. I said I would not elaborate. I did not mention COI. I see how Matilda could be accused of COI though, through Djsasso's possible explanation. If you want to ask me direct questions, then yes I will try to answer them. But you have given 16 lines of text to ask me why I feel that Matilda is badgering. Kennedy (talk) 09:59, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. I tend to be a little verbose at times. Thanks for clarifying and this will be my last post on the issue. alexandra (talk) 17:41, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • One person's badgering is another person's making sure the editor is aware the question has been raised. I commented on my talk page in response to a comment by Ryan Cross about Gwib's reason - that comment was not requesting Gwib's response (though it did call into question his judgment) . Gwib, although not invited to, commented on my talk page to assert he knew what it meant but declined to say how it applied to me. As Cassandra observed on my talk page and here - it is a VERY serious charge in my view and the views of others. Because Gwib had stated on his talk page that he would not comment I replied to his comment on my talk page and I requested at the RfA underneath his oppose ! I do not assume that he will watch the RfA or notice my request so I alerted him to it on his talk page. He replied on his talk page that he would not comment further. I replied to that on his talk page and alerted the community at RfA. Djsasso chimed n on Gwib's talk page - I didn't bother Gwib with my reply but replied to Djsasso on his talk page and continued a conversation there.
As for verbosity (and badgering) - there is much written on the topic of different communication styyles eg Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus - it strikes me that you and other members of the community fail to understand differences in communication styles - young men communicate differently to women - sorry if that irritates you.--Matilda (talk) 20:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Ok thanks for that. Regards Rhodes416 (talk) 11:11, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please could you protect my talk page so that only Autoconfirmed users can edit it then? Rhodes416 (talk) 13:12, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will still be around at weekends, so I am not retiring! :D But I don't like the idea of me being the "Lead" editor; We do this together BG7, Shappy, and everyone else! ;) Kennedy (talk) 09:02, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help please

I have noticed that there isn't alot of userboxes on Simple.wikipedia. There are hundreds on en.wiki. Is it ok if i create pages the userboxes and place them on a userbox page on simple.wiki for everyone to use. Thanks Daisy (talk) 11:53, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You

The Yotcmdr Barnstar
Thank you for strongly supporting me in my WP:RFA which passed with 15 supports and no opposes. I appreciate your confidence in me a lot. The barnstar may not mean much to you, but your support did to me, thanks. Yotcmdr =talk to the commander= 09:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC) [reply]

Yep, put you in the queue. It will be a while though :) Kennedy (talk) 00:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. Gives me more time to write articles and to get barnstars. lol. VandalFighterFR(V) Bad warning? 00:28, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SN2

Hey Kennedy,

I'm prepping the bot for delivery, but before I actually deliver, i'm just checking if you have Shapiros10's interview written up. I was going to deliver at about 10.15, and if this is too early then it would otherwise be 1ish (all times in GMT).

If you can't get it done by 1 then it would have to be held over until the next issue - else the issue would have to be manually delivered or held over until Monday (i'm way to busy to do it tomorrow!)

Thanks for all your work with it!

BG7even 10:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Kennedy,
I've finalised the Issue, and it's ready to "go to press". I'm just finishing off an "emergency" QandA with Gwib as he offered and I didn't see yours anywhere... sorry about that - i'm happy to forfeit my place in the QandA queue so as to not get too far behind!
It should be delivered shortly ;)
Cheers,

QandA
  • The QandA. Every month, Kennedy will interview one of Simple English Wikipedia's editors, asking them about themselves, and their opinions on Wikipedia. It is an exciting insight behind the anonymous face of an online username. Las month we debuted with Microchip08. Due up next was Shapiros10 but due to uncontrollable circumstances we have had to postpone this to next month. Instead, Bluegoblin7 takes the reigns and interviews Gwib, who kindly volunteered to keep the section in this issue. Click for his interview:
