Carol Kane (born 18 June 1952; age 72) is an Emmy Award-winning actress who played Pelia in the second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Kane is best known for appearing in films such as The Last Detail (1973, with Derek McGrath), Hester Steet (1975), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, Dog Day Afternoon (1975, with Chris Sarandon and Robert Costanzo), Annie Hall (1977, with Mark Lenard and John Glover), When a Stranger Calls (1979, with William Boyett), The Muppet Movie (1979, with Paul Williams and Shari Lewis), Jumpin' Jack Flash (1986, starring Whoopi Goldberg and Stephen Collins, with Vyto Ruginis and Michael McKean), Ishtar (1987, with Matt Frewer), The Princess Bride (1987, with Chris Sarandon and Wallace Shawn), Scrooged (1988, with John Glover, Michael J. Pollard, Alfre Woodard, Wendie Malick, Roy Brocksmith, Sachi Parker, Logan Ramsey, Amy Hill, and Adrian Tafoya), and Addams Family Values (1993, with Christopher Lloyd, and Carel Struycken).
She is also known for her role as Simka Gravas, the wife of Latka (Andy Kaufman) on the sitcom Taxi (1980-83), for which she won two Emmy Awards. Christopher Lloyd was also a regular on this show and Vincent Schiavelli had a recurring role.
More recently, Kane had a recurring role in fourteen episodes of Gotham (2014-16) and was a main cast member on Netflix' Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt from 2015 to 2020. She reprised her role in the TV movie Kimmy vs the Reverend (2020). From 2020 to 2023, she was a regular on the Amazon thriller series Hunters, alongside Saul Rubinek.
Kane has also made several guest appearances on television. Her credits include episodes of series such as Cheers, Tales from the Crypt, Seinfeld (starring Jason Alexander), Chicago Hope (starring Jayne Brook), Ellen, The Tony Danza Show (with Dean Stockwell), Homicide: Life on the Street (starring Michelle Forbes), Hope & Faith, Two and a Half Men, Monk (with Virginia Madsen), Ugly Betty (starring Tony Plana and Vanessa Williams), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (with Ronald Guttman), and Anger Management.
