Košarkaški Klub Partizan (Serbian Cyrillic: Кошаркашки Клуб Партизан, English: Basketball Club Partizan) is a professional basketball club from Belgrade, Serbia. KK Partizan currently participates in the Adriatic League, Euroleague and the Sinalco Superleague. Their homeground is Pionir Hall. KK Partizan is one of the sport clubs in Serbia that are part of the sport society Partizan.

History

KK Partizan was the European champion in 1992 with curiosity of winning the title, although playing all but one of the games (crucial quarter-final game vs. Knorr) on foreign grounds; FIBA decided not to allow teams from the former Yugoslavia to play their home games at their home venues, because of open hostilities in the region. KK Partizan was not allowed to defend the title in the 1992-1993 season, because of UN sanction. They also won 3 Radivoj Korać Cups in 1978, 1979 and 1989.

KK Partizan is the defending Serbian basketball champion and the holder of 16 national champion titles, of which the last eight were won consecutively. They have also won 10 national basketball cups and three consecutive NLB leagues - in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Arena

The "Pionir" arena was built in 1973 in just 11 months, by the Energoprojekt construction firm.

Basketball in Yugoslavia was then in full swing and although Pionir hosted many different sport events (volleyball, handball) it quickly became known as basketball sanctuary.

The Yugoslav national team won the European gold in 1975 under its roof, and also brought luck to the Lithuanian champions Žalgiris Kaunas in 1998, when they took the Saporta Cup.

Partizan moved in the Pionir in 1992 after their old hall Hala sportova became obsolete for a club that was about to take the European throne.

The Pionir is today a modern, fully equipped facility that can successfully meet the highest standards of the top European competition.

However, Partizan holds the record for the highest attendance ever recorded in the Euroleague in another venue. 22,567 spectators filled Belgrade Arena on March 5 2009, to attend a 2008–09 Top 16 match between Partizan Belgrade and Panathinaikos [1]
