Warrior Poets is no longer attached to The Trade, Showtime’s upcoming five-episode docuseries, which will have its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, a source tells Deadline.
Warrior Poets, the New York-based production company founded by Morgan Spurlock and Jeremy Chilnick, was co-producing the docu with Matthew Heineman’s Our Time Projects for Showtime. Word that the company is no longer involved with the project follows Spurlock being dropped as an executive producer of The Trade and his exit from Warrior Poets after Spurlock’s public admission of sexual misconduct.
Our Time Projects is now the sole producer of the docuseries for the premium cabler. Heineman, the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning director of Cartel Land, directs The Trade and executive produces. Pagan Harleman also serves as executive producer.
The Trade spotlights the opioid crisis through the eyes of the growers, addicts, cartel bosses and law enforcement hopelessly caught in its web. It’s set to premiere February 2 on Showtime, following its Sundance world premiere.

Since Spurlock’s stunning admission, his Super Size Me 2 has been dropped by YouTube Red and pulled from Sundance, while TNT has suspended production on the unscripted series Who Rules the World (working title), with co-producers, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Pretty Matches and Refinery29, severing ties with Spurlock. The Devil We Know filmmakers also have distanced themselves from Spurlock.
