In the peak streaming era, it can be hard to figure out which services are worth the money, especially when every streaming service offers different content to appeal to all different kinds of people. For most sports lovers looking to cut the cord, ESPN+ offers the most bang for your buck with an unmatched amount of live sports available to stream, plus a library of other sports-related content and access to ESPN+ subscriber exclusive articles.

Is ESPN+ the right sports streaming service for you? Below, we’ve compiled everything you need to know so you can start streaming.

What Is ESPN+?

Launched in 2018, ESPN+ is the streaming arm of the ESPN cable network. Thanks to partnerships with several professional and NCAA sports leagues and conferences, ESPN+ streams thousands of live games every year across a variety of sports. The service also features a full catalog of ESPN originals like 30 For 30, and includes access to articles on ESPN’s site that are exclusive to subscribers.

How Much Does ESPN+ Cost?

As a standalone subscription, ESPN+ costs $10.99/month or $109.99/year. You can sign up on ESPN+’s website, and cancel at any time.

How to Bundle ESPN+:

Bundling ESPN+ can save you over 40% every month when compared to the price of the services individually.

The Disney Bundle is offered in three different tiers, and two of them include ESPN+, in addition to Disney+ and Hulu. If ads don’t bother you, the Trio Basic tier comes with ad-supported Disney+ and Hulu for $14.99/month. That’s only $4 more than the monthly price of ESPN+ on its own — the bundle gives you two more services for just $4 more a month! If, however, you don’t want ads, there’s a bundle for that, too. The Trio Premium bundle costs $24.99/month and gets rid of the ads on Disney+ and Hulu.

It’s worth noting that no matter what plan you choose, ESPN+ will never be entirely ad-free as the live games do come with ads that you can’t upgrade or pay away.

Cord cutters who choose to replace cable with Hulu + Live TV will also get ESPN+ as part of that subscription. For $76.99/month, you can get live access to over 100 channels, plus Hulu and Disney+’s entire streaming libraries (with ads) and all of the live sports that come with ESPN+.

What Sports Are Streaming on ESPN+?

ESPN+’s programming includes thousands of live games from many major sports. Combat sports are one of the biggest draws to the ESPN+ service, as the service is the exclusive home for UFC on streaming. UFC Fight Nights are included in the price, but the monthly “numbered” UFC events are only available as a pay-per-view add-on.

The service also airs the following sports and leagues:

  • 5,000+ NCAA basketball games every season
  • 500+ NCAA football games every season
  • Soccer from 20+ international leagues and cups
  • At least one MLB game every night
  • 1,000+ NHL games every season
  • Every Formula One race
  • The Masters + US Open + PGA Tour
  • All three tennis grand slam events (US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon)
  • International cricket
  • Lacrosse
  • Boxing

Does ESPN+ Have Regional Blackouts?

Yes, ESPN+ does have regional blackouts for certain live events. This happens when you live in the home television territory for a team in the game — so, for example, if you live in New York City, all New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and New Jersey Devils NHL games are blacked out on ESPN+ since the local cable channel MSG carries them.

How to Watch ESPN+:

Once you’ve subscribed to ESPN+, whether through the bundle or standalone, you can stream games, shows, and more through the dedicated ESPN+ app. You can download the app on Android and Apple devices, streaming media players like Roku and Amazon Fire, Smart TVs, Chromecast, and gaming devices like PlayStation and Xbox.

If you subscribe to the Disney Bundle, the live sports from ESPN+ will also be available to stream in the Hulu app, regardless of whether or not you have Hulu + Live TV.

Is ESPN+ Worth It?

The answer to that depends on the type of sports fan you are and the kind of sports you like to watch. If your home team, in any of the major leagues, is the only team you watch, then you may find that ESPN+ isn’t worth it for you. However, if you find yourself living far away from your favorite teams or are content watching any game despite the team, you love combat sports, golf, or tennis, ESPN+ may make a worthwhile addition to your streaming lineup.
