The next chapter of director Matt Reeves’s The Batman saga is finally here! HBO’s The Penguin is a brand new show that takes place in the chaotic aftermath of the 2022 film, revealing how the unluckiest citizens of Gotham got on after Paul Dano’s version of The Riddler almost completely destroyed the entire city. With entire neighborhoods underwater and crime boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro in the film, Mark Strong in the HBO show) gone, the poorer parts of Gotham are completely helpless. It won’t be Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) who shows up to fill the power vacuum, but Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell), one of Carmine’s most ambitious lieutenants, nicknamed “The Penguin.”

HBO’s The Penguin follows its eponymous antihero has he schemes, backstabs, and hustles his way to the top of Gotham’s criminal underworld. The biggest threat to his rise to power? None other than Carmine’s unhinged daughter, Sofia Falcone (Crisitin Milioti). The petite mafia princess was just sprung from Arkham, where she was imprisoned for a decade for heinous crimes. She doesn’t trust Oz and Oz doesn’t trust her, but they may need each other to wrestle power away from Carmine’s feckless heirs apparent.

Also aiding Oz in his bloody journey to power is young orphan Victor Aguilar (Rhenzy Feliz). The teenager is discovered trying to steal the Penguin’s hubcaps and is soon pressed into the older gangster’s service. An unlikely friendship sparks, however, that reveals new layers to Oz’s personality.

There are eight episodes in total in HBO’s limited series, The Penguin. While the first episode, “After Hours,” premieres tonight, on a Thursday, the rest of the episodes will release on Sunday nights through November 10. Confused? Is The Penguin Streaming on Netflix? Where to Stream The Penguin:

Hoping to find the new Colin Farrell show The Penguin streaming on Netflix? Well, you’re going to be massively disappointed. The Penguin is an HBO production, meaning it’s only available to stream on HBO and Max, which you can purchase for as little as $9.99. Max also offers “Ad-Free” and “Ultimate Ad-Free” plans for $16.99/month and $20.99/month, respectively.

You can also add Max to your Hulu (an additional $15.99/month) or Prime Video (an additional $14.99/month) accounts.

Will There Be a Penguin Season 2?

Probably not! It’s not just that The Penguin was intended as a limited series set up to lead directly into The Batman Part 2. If The Penguin is a success, executive producers Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark. told Decider the hope would be to create other stand alone series in The Batman universe following other characters for HBO.

“The Batman movies we have planned, and our last movie, they’re all about Bruce. They’re all from the point of view of Batman and Bruce, right?” Reeves said. “And so the opportunity to do HBO shows where you’re changing the point of view…to be able to do the beginnings of Oz, becoming the kingpin in The Penguin, and the opportunity to do that with other characters, we are really excited about that chance and we have been talking to them about it.”

“The deeper dive through longform and also to do it on HBO is it’s just an incredible experience,” Clark said. “As Matt said, it’s you get a different point of view, but you really can go deeper into these characters much more than you could in our film because we’re spending so much time with with Batman and Bruce. So it’s such an amazing experience to have Warner Brothers and HBO to play in these two areas.”

So if The Penguin pops off and becomes a hit, don’t expect a Penguin Season 2 order. Instead, look for another The Batman character to get their showcase.
