Jenna Bush Hager, Hoda Kotb Debate Which Groceries Are Most Attractive After Learning Singles Are Flocking To Supermarkets To Date: “Take The Protein Powder Out”

This may be one dating trend Hoda Kotb won’t be participating in.

On Today With Hoda & Jenna, the hosts learned about a new dating trend that is reportedly taking over Spain: Singles are “swarming” local supermarkets in the evenings and signaling to each other what they’re looking for — whether that’s long-term, short-term, or just for the night — using their groceries.

“It seems like the apps are kind of a thing of yester-year,” Jenna Bush Hager told her co-host.

They then watched a TikTok that showed a supermarket crowded with young people milling about. “It’s like a single’s bar!” Kotb remarked.

She then turned to her co-host and asked, “If you were ‘shopping’ for someone and you were looking at a cart, what would you like to see in his cart?”

Despite the bizarre nature of the conversation, Bush Hager seriously pondered her answer. “I mean, maybe a little protein powder. Some sort of red meat, some potatoes, you know, something just hearty,” she responded. “I wonder what some things mean. Like for example, if you saw a man walking down with some Twinkies turned upside down, turned sideways and horizontal?”

Kotb replied, “I don’t know but I would want someone that has sweets in his cart because you don’t want someone who’s so buttoned up, counting carbs.”

In Spain, some people are trying to meet potential partners at “mercados,” or supermarkets – and there’s even a specific method and clues with the items they pick.

“That’s right, maybe we take the protein powder out and put some frozen Snickers,” Bush Hager added. She and Kotb shared a high-five over that idea.

Bush Hager then mentioned that she has a story of her own debuting soon on Today about how running clubs in New York City have become popular amongst single people looking to date.

“I feel like people are dying for connection. Nobody wants to meet on the phone anymore. They want to meet ramming their carts with each other,” she told Kotb, who agreed that singles want to meet “IRL” again.

Kotb luckily won’t have to resort to running clubs or supermarket trips anytime soon, as she has a supportive wing-woman in her Today co-host.

Bush Hager has been trying to set Kotb up with every male A-list celeb that stops by Today, whether that’s Lenny Kravitz, Dave Bautista or Kevin Costner.
