It looks like Jennifer Lopez is finally making her highly anticipated comeback to romantic comedies.

After a “hot bidding war,” Netflix reportedly acquired the rights to Lopez’s a new “irreverent romantic comedy” Office Romance, starring Ted Lasso breakout star Brett Goldstein.

Deadline reports the feature is still in early development as it looks like Goldstein is currently co-writing the feature with Ted Lasso co-creator Joe Kelly. However, the outlet notes the film reportedly “has several great character actor roles” planned.

Lopez, Goldstein, and Kelly are all attached as producers. A director has not yet been announced.

This marks Lopez’s first romcom for the streamer after her production company, Nuyorican Productions, struck a multi-year first-look deal with Netflix. Lopez’s previous Netflix films, The Mother and Atlas, both ranked amongst the streamer’s top films. Her latest release, the sports drama Unstoppable, recently premiered at TIFF to promising reviews. But Office Romance could be a welcome return to the genre that helped cement her career as an actress.

She is also in good company for Office Romance. Goldstein has thoroughly proved his capabilities as an actor, romantic lead, and writer. The two-time Emmy winner landed his breakout inTed Lasso role after he was originally hired on the show.

There, he played Roy Kent, a curmudgeon with a heart of gold who forges a lovely (if unfortunate) romance with Juno Temple‘s Keeley.

Kelly, also a two-time Emmy winner, previously wrote for Saturday Night Live and How I Met Your Mother before he helped co-create the hit Apple TV+ series. Lopez is also currently adapting bestselling author Emily Henry‘s romantic comedy Happy Place into a series for the streamer.
