Jon Stewart nabbed the 23rd Emmy win of his career Sunday (Sept. 15) evening, prompting the late night host to possibly reconsider his future on The Daily Show again.

“Well, my feeling is this election will never end. So why would I? How could I leave?” he said backstage at the Emmy Awards, per Variety. “I won’t be allowed to leave until the election, until we’re all ground to some sort of calcified nubs. … We’re looking forward to it being awful.”

The Daily Show was named best talk series for the second year in a row after Trevor Noah‘s final season won in 2023. Last night’s award marked Stewart’s first Emmy win in over a decade.

“To have the opportunity to work with this incredibly talented group … once a week, it’s really made my Mondays,” he said in his acceptance speech, adding that his Daily Show correspondents Ronny Chieng, Michael Kosta, Jordan Klepper and Desi Lydic “kick ass.”

Stewart returned to The Daily Show in early 2024 to host Monday evenings through the presidential election in November. He is currently set to stay on the show as an executive producer through 2025, but with his new Emmy win, it looks like Stewart may be reconsidering his decision to leave the late night desk.

Stewart returned to The Daily Show when his Apple TV+ comedy series The Problem With Jon Stewart was abruptly canceled after two seasons due to his creative differences with Apple.

“I very much wanted to have some place to unload thoughts as we get into this election season,” Stewart said of his return to Comedy Central. “And I thought I was going to do it over at, they call it Apple TV+. It’s a television enclave, very small. It’s like living in Malibu. But they decided that they felt that they didn’t want me to say things that might get me in trouble.”

Now, the late night host has been utilizing his Monday night slot on the show to criticize Democrats and Republicans alike.

Only time will tell if Stewart will remain on The Daily Show after the presidential election ends in November. Or will the series finally find a new comedian to take over full-time under his stewardship?

The Daily Show airs Monday through Thursday at 11/10c on Comedy Central.
