Karamo returns for Season 3 this week, and host Karamo Brown is well aware of the magnitude of landing another season.

“I cried, I screamed,” he recalls to DECIDER with reference to learning Karamo was being picked up for Season 3 back in March, noting that jobs like his are “hard to come by.”

“Most shows don’t make it past Season 1. Most don’t make it past Season 2,” he added. “And for me to be going into Season 3 of a nationally syndicated show where I’m getting to help people… it just blows my mind. It really blows my mind. I’m just so thankful.”

Fans of the daytime series can rest assured that they will be seeing “more of the same” signature elements of Brown’s, including “people coming on, sharing their stories, sharing their raw emotions, [and Brown] giving them the tools” to be their best selves, which he refers to as “resolve and evolve.” The show’s trademark “Unlock the Phone” segment is returning once again, during which investigators help individuals concerned that they are being lied to in their relationships by unlocking their partner’s phone to either expose or vindicate them.

Members of Brown’s live studio audience will also be able to take part in “Q and K” this season, during which they may “ask questions and get [his] advice on the spot.”

“There’s no producers, no prepping,” he says.

Brown also reveals that he will be having his son’s mother on the show “to talk a lot about co-parenting,” something he is “super excited about because [his] journey to fatherhood was very different.” All in all, Brown promises to deliver “continuations of how to help people be better.”

As for Brown’s other TV title — Queer Eye Fab Five member, that is — he tells DECIDER that he translates the hit Netflix reality show’s slogan of “things just keep getting better” to his own talk show.

“I tell my guests that if you’re not leaving a little better than I found you, then I didn’t do my job,” he says, “and when guests leave my show, they always say I left them a little better, so I’m like [pats back], great. We did it!”

Speaking of Queer Eye, Brown notes that he is “still best friends” with show alum Bobby Berk — who was allegedly the target of “mean girl antics” behind-the-scenes to oust him in favor of newcomer Jeremiah Brent, per a bombshell Rolling Stone report. Brown says that Berk “shined” on the show, but also teases what fans can expect from Brent’s arrival.

“What Jeremiah brought was [he] made us see it through his eyes, being that it’s his first season,” he muses. “It felt like Season 1 again. It felt like Season 1 where we were just invigorated. And though Jeremiah and Bobby are completely both strong talents, they’re different. I’m excited to see the world see Jeremiah shine just as much as Bobby shined. I know people are going to love this season that we just shot equally as much as they’ve loved any other season, and I think it’s just great.”

Something that sets Karamo apart in today’s TV landscape, as Brown points out during our Zoom call, is that the program is “one of the last shows that does real people” as opposed to being “celebrity-based.”

“There’s a space for people who need to see and understand that they’re not alone,” he adds.

As for a fellow daytime talk show host he would choose to collab with if he had the chance to, he name-dropped Kelly Clarkson, whom he says he would “love” to do a “Kelly and Karamo hour” with.

“Both of us had our start in reality television — I was on The Real World, she was on [American] Idol — and then [we] both continued to take our careers to the next level. Obviously she’s a superstar,” he shares. “I think what she does so well, and I love all the women in daytime, but what Kelly does so extremely well is she just makes you feel seen.”

Karamo Season 3 premieres on Monday, Sept. 16. Check out the show’s website for your local listings.
