A24 is once again making sure horror fans are well-fed with The Front Room, a new psychological thriller opening in theaters this weekend. That’s right, the same studio that brought you Pearl, Bodies Bodies Bodies, Midsommar, The Witch, and so much more, has a new horror movie coming out, this time starring ’90s pop icon Brandy.
In The Front Room, Brandy stars as a soon-to-be mother named Belinda, expecting her first child with her husband, Norman (Andrew Burnap). But Belinda’s baby prep is interrupted by the unwelcome arrival of Norman’s estranged, elderly stepmother (played by Kathryn Hunter), who moves into the couple’s front room. Nobody likes a visit from the in-laws, but this goes a bit beyond simple annoyance.
The Front Room was written and directed by brothers Max and Sam Eggers—who are both the half brother of acclaimed filmmaker Robert Eggers—in their feature film debut. If you’re a horror fan, you don’t want to miss out on this one. Read on for all the information you need on where to watch The Front Room movie and when The Front Room will be streaming on Max.
Where to watch The Front Room movie:
The Front Room will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, September 6. (It will open in the U.K. on October 25, 2024.) You can find a showing near you via Fandango. The Front Room is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Is The Front Room streaming on Netflix?
The Front Room is not streaming on Netflix and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is an A24 release, and the recent 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, brings all A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the Warner Bros. streaming service Max. (Formerly known as HBO Max.) If you want to watch The Front Room movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Max.
Is The Front Room streaming on HBO’s Max?
The Front Room is not yet streaming on Max. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see The Front Room streaming on Max eventually—thanks to the A24 and Warner Bros. deal—but we’re not sure when.
The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to The Front Room, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, Love Lies Bleeding, began streaming on Max about four-and-a-half months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital. If The Front Room follows a similar release strategy, you’ll see The Front Room streaming on Max around January or February 2024. That said, perhaps the movie will come to streaming sooner, to capitalize on spooky season.
This is all speculation. If you want to watch The Front Room right away, you can catch the movie in theaters.
