‘Midnight Sun,’ Stephanie Meyer’s Infamous Retelling Of ‘Twilight,’ In Production As An Animated Show At Netflix

It’s been 19 years since the first Twilight book hit shelves and 16 years since its first film adaptation. Now, its’s time for the franchise’s star vampire to share his perspective.

Netflix announced on Wednesday (Sept. 4) that an adaptation of Stephanie Meyer’s Midnight Sun “is officially in production.” According to Variety, Lionsgate’s Vice Chairman Michael Burns first confirmed the project to be an animated series in March.

The series’ initial love triangle of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) divided fans into two camps: Team Edward and Team Jacob. Those in the first camp were thrilled when Meyer opted to publish Midnight Sun in 2020, which she had begun writing back in 2008 following the publication of Breaking Dawn.

Meyer is onboard the project as an executive producer with Meghan Hibbett for Fickle Fish Films, as well as Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment, Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart, and Sinead Daly, the last of whom will also serve as the show’s writer.
