7 Shows To Watch Like ‘My Lady Jane’ Following Prime Video’s Controversial Cancellation

My Lady Jane fans received a rude awakening this month.

The historical fantasy series was canceled by Prime Video after a single season, which was released on June 27, despite the series touting a 94% average Tomatometer score and an 89% average Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Decider contributor Joel Keller urged prospective viewers to STREAM IT in his My Lady Jane review, citing the performances of Emily Bader (Lady Jane Grey) and Máiréad Tyers (Susannah) among others, and noting that “the actual parallel-universe story is an intriguing one to follow.”

Prime Video billed the series as a retelling of the story of Lady Jane Grey, “the young Tudor noblewoman who was Queen of England for nine days and then beheaded, back in good ol’ 1553.”

“We’re retelling history the way it should have happened: the damsel in distress saves herself,” their description continues. “This is an epic tale of true love and high adventure set in an alt-universe of action, history, fantasy, comedy, romance, and rompy-pompy. Buckle up.”

The highly anticipated second part of the Starz series’ seventh season premieres on Nov. 22. Set in London’s East End, this series adapted from Jennifer Worth’s memoirs has ran since 2012, following a group of nurse midwives. Fortunately, Season 13 of the British period drama hits Netflix on Sept. 2, and Season 14 is currently in the works!

The Tudors

While The Tudors ended in 2010, all four seasons of the historical fiction series are available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime and Prime Video. The series surrounds the early portion of Henry VIII’s (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) reign, while also spotlighting other historical figures like Anne of Cleves (Joss Stone), Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer), and Mary Tudor (Sarah Bolger).

The Wheel of Time

Based on Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson’s novels, The Wheel of Time has proven itself as a fantastical force in Prime Video’s library. The series starring and executive produced by Rosamund Pike was picked up for a third season by the streamer back in 2022.
