Surreal Life: Villa of SecretsChet Hanks is two years sober, and is looking back on his journey to where he is now.

On Tuesday night’s (Aug. 13) installment, Hanks opened up about the milestone with his co-stars, revealing how he was able to get clean, per The Daily Mail.

“Two years ago today, I was coming off a three-day coke binge, where I didn’t eat, sleep, or barely drink any water for three days straight,” he shared. “When I got to Vegas, I weighed 190 pounds. At the end of it, I weighed 163. I lost 27 pounds in three days. So my disease is gnarly. It’s not pretty.”

Hanks, who was 31 at the time, explained how he checked himself into rehab again, describing himself as “broke, strung out, sucked up, just skinny,” and ultimately “just at rock bottom.”

“And I just knew, man, if I don’t change my life in a drastic way, either I’m not even going to be around, or something bad, so bad is going to happen that my life might as well be over. ‘Cause that’s where I was headed,” he said.

Fellow Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets star Tyler Posey empathized with Hanks in a confessional, noting that “sobriety is something that links people together no matter what” and that he himself has “been there, too.”

“I’ve been there for most of my life,” Posey added. “I’m iimpressed by Chet in a lot of ways. I think that he’s still figuring himself out. And I think that’s also sort of, like, endearing for people to see. It’s like, oh, this guy doesn’t have it figured out. But he’s still doing it, and he’s going through it and being honest about where he’s at.”

Hanks continued, “But by the grace of God, I managed to just do the work, get myself clean, get myself sober, and now look. I’m here two years later, having the time of my fucking life.”

The other villa residents, including Macy Gray, O.T. Genasis, Johnny Weir, Josie Canseco, and Kim Zolciak, applauded his journey and his openness. Hanks shared that “it felt good” to confide in his co-stars.

“I feel like everyone got to know me a little bit better, and it’s real shit, you know,” he highlighted, eventually likening his castmates to “a family.”

During the show’s July 23 season premiere, Hanks reflected on growing up with famous father Tom Hanks.

“Some people are really enamored with my family’s fame. Some people are really resentful about it,” he shared in a confessional. “So, you know, from a young age, being very aware of that was a lot to mentally process.”
