Jeff Goldblum Jokes That He’s Competing In The Next Olympics – But Not In Pole Vaulting: “You Know Why”

The Olympics are coming to Los Angeles next, and Jeff Goldblum, who is guest hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, had some predictions to share about what that will look like in 2028.

The Kaos star joked that the Olympics will feature “an L.A. twist on some of the events,” including “face lifting, farm to table tennis, and the 50 meter name drop.”

Goldblum then shared some sage advice he received about name dropping. “Someone told me one time you should never, they said you should never, ever, ever name drop,” he told the Kimmel audience. “You know who told me that? Robert De Niro.”

The actor also claimed that he was going to compete in the Olympics, and knew exactly which sport he was going to go out for.

“I’m gonna be in the next Olympics, don’t crush my dream. I’m gonna win that gold,” he announced. He added that he’s gong to “do the horse,” though it wasn’t clear if he meant horse pommeling or a different event. He did, however, clarify one event he won’t be trying his hand at.

“I’m not gonna do the pole vaulting,” he later joked. “You know why. I can’t, I cant.” He threw up his hands as he said, “I can’t. Some people are just built for that.”

Goldblum is, of course, referencing the French Olympic athlete Anthony Ammirati whose “bulge” cost him the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ammirati was competing in the qualifying track for the final when his crotch knocked over the pole.

The athlete called the unfortunate moment “a big disappointment” as he had to exit the Olympics afterwards, per the French Athletics Federation.

Goldblum will be guest hosting Kimmel for the rest of the week. He’s the latest celebrity to fill in for Jimmy Kimmel, who has been away from the show since June.

Kimmel will be back on the show Sept. 2.
