The Primetime Emmy Awards are back, and it looks like this awards season will be no less competitive than the last.
Emmy voters certainly had their work cut out for them this season. Only shows that premiered within the eligibility window — June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 — can be considered, which means several of this year’s biggest shows qualify, including The Crown, Baby Reindeer, True Detective: Night Country, Shogun, Only Murders in the Building, Feud: Capote vs. the Swans, Fargo and many, many more.
Time will tell which late night talk shows and reality series will earn a nomination this year. One of the biggest surprises of the 2023 awards season was seeing Vanderpump Rules nab its first Emmy after almost 10 years on the air thanks to its detailed coverage of Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval‘s breakup. Who knows what surprises the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will bring?
The Bear Season 1 swept during the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, taking home 10 statuettes — the most of the evening — with wins for lead actors Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The show’s highly acclaimed second season will now be in consideration in 2024, which means there’s a high chance the FX drama will enjoy another victory run this year.
Beef and The Last of Us were close behind with eight Emmys, but both series have yet to return with a second season, which means The Bear will have some new competition this year. Succession honorably trailed behind with six awards for its memorable final season.
Abbott Elementary‘s Sheryl Lee Ralph, who nabbed an Emmy in 2022 for her touching performance as kindergarten teacher Barbara Howard, will present the 2024 nominees on July 17 alongside Veep comedy star Tony Hale.
The 76th Emmy Awards will air live on ABC Sunday, Sept. 15, at 8/7c. It will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
