Cole Brings Plenty, the actor best known for his role in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, has died. He was 27.

Deputies found his body in a “wooded area” last Friday, (April 5), according to the Johnson County, Kansas Sheriff’s Department. Crime scene investigators and a medical examiner were present on the scene and an investigation is still ongoing.

Cole’s father, Joe Brings Plenty Sr., also released a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

“I am deeply saddened to confirm that my son, Cole, has been found and is no longer with us,” he told the outlet. “We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts you sent for Cole. We would also like to thank everyone who came to walk beside us as we searched for my son and provided the resources we needed to expand our search areas.”

He continued, “I learned this week how many people knew the goodness in Cole’s heart and loved him. During this incredibly difficult time, we ask for privacy as we process our grief and figure out how we move forward. Please know we appreciate you and appreciate your understanding.”

Cole’s body was found days after the Lawrence Kansas Police Department “submitted an affidavit to the District Attorney” for his arrest in relation to an alleged domestic violence incident that reportedly occurred on March 31.

“We’ve identified him as the suspect, have probable cause for his arrest, and issued an alert to area agencies,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post.

Officers responded to reports of a woman “screaming for help,” but they say Cole “fled” before they arrived at the scene. They did not share further details, though Cole’s family ultimately contacted officers and reported him as a missing person.

Cole played sheep herder Pete Plenty Clouds in two episodes of 1923. His real-life uncle Moses Brings Plenty, who is best known for playing Mo on Yellowstone, made several social media posts about the family’s search for his nephew.

“We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone in the community who has contributed their time, resources, and support in helping us search for the missing person,” he captioned a missing person poster. “Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we are truly thankful for your cooperation and dedication during this challenging time. Your assistance has been invaluable, and we appreciate the unity and compassion shown by all those involved in the search efforts.”
