Jenna Bush Hager Wonders If The Eclipse Is An “Anniversary Gift” From God As She Celebrates Five Years Of Hosting ‘Today’ With Hoda Kotb

It was a pretty huge morning on Today with Hoda & Jenna, as Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager celebrated the fifth anniversary as co-hosts of their NBC morning show. The show first premiered with the duo as co-hosts on April 8, 2019, and in that time, both women added children to their families, were separated by the pandemic and forced to film the show in isolation, and grew to become close off-camera friends.

Just talking about the evolution of their friendship made them both break down in tears not even two minutes into today’s episode. Moments into the show, Kotb paused to look at Bush Hager and simply say, “Five years,” causing Bush Hager to say, “Stop, you know I’m on the edge,” while dabbing tears from her eyes.

“We kinda knew April was gonna be super weird for many reasons. Today is the eclipse and our five-year anniversary,” Kotb explained.

“Did God give us this wonderful 5 year anniversary gift? The eclipse?” Bush Hager asked Kotb in earnest.

“The eclipse. Maybe it’s something special,” Kotb responded, also growing tearful as she began to explain how grateful she is to have Bush Hager as her co-host.

“Here’s the great thing about this. We started off as colleagues/friends, we didn’t really know each other,” she said. “Over the five years, there’s such a deep understanding of the other’s soul and purpose, we have traveled down these roads together. A lot of times friendships don’t grow… not ours… Ours is, every day it’s something different, it’s something new, it’s something were learning… This was all meant to be.”

Bush Hager added, “To have a ‘we’ that feels so profound at this stage in life, to have a ‘we’, everybody looks for a partner that will grow with them and here we are.”

It goes without saying, the tears were truly flowing from both women at this point in their sweet love-fest.

To mark their anniversary, the Empire State Building is being lit pink and purple today, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams signed an official proclamation declaring today “Today with Hoda and Jenna Day” in the city. The Mayor’s proclamation was presented to the women by their NBC colleague, Saturday Night Live star Chloe Fineman.

Today with Hoda and Jenna airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
