This week’s new movies on VOD include the French Oscar nominee The Taste of Things, and the uplifting drama Ordinary Angels, starring Hilary Swank.
Also out this week is the latest entry in the Supernatural Stuffies genre, Imaginary. DeWanda Wise stars in this Blumhouse picture as a woman who moves her family into her childhood home and experiences what can only be described as Teddy Ruxpin-meets-Chucky when her old teddy bear begins to terrorize the family.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
The Taste of Things
In the French romantic drama The Taste of Things, Juliette Binoche plays a chef named Eugénie who works for a man named Dodin (Benoit Magimel). The couple share a mutual respect for one another and enjoy a pragmatic romance, though Eugénie resists making anything official, eventually giving in and getting married to him just as her health begins to deteriorate. As much a tribute to romance as it is to food, the film was, somewhat controversially, the French entry for Best International Film at this year’s Oscars, beating out Anatomy of a Fall.
Ordinary Angels
In Ordinary Angels, Hilary Swank plays Sharon, an alcoholic hairdresser who finds purpose in her life when she learns about a local 5-year-old named Michelle who’s battling cancer. Sharon makes it her purpose to help Michelle’s widower father, Ed (Alan Ritchson), pay the bills and get Michelle the treatment she needs, and in doing so, she attempts to conquer her own demons.
