A new villain emerges from every season of Love Is Blind, but for the first time, viewers are reprimanding a contestant’s parent.

Season 6 aired its wedding episode on March 6, 2024, which only saw one of the five couples say “I do.”

Clay Gravesande’s father, Trevor Gravesande, is garnering heavy criticism for talking about his sporting successes on the day of his son’s wedding to fan-favorite Amber Desiree “AD” Smith.

In Episode 12, “Meet Me at the Altar,” viewers are introduced to Clay’s father, whose reputation precedes him as Clay and his mother Rita had spoken about his infidelity in previous episodes.

On Clay’s wedding day, Trevor arrives to help his son get dressed for the occasion. He laughs and tells Clay he was thinking of a time when Clay was interested in track and field.

“When I took you out running the first time, I beat you. I’m talking all this stuff, ‘You gotta do this, you gotta do that.’ Then one day you beat me so bad. You were way before me. I couldn’t believe it,” the patriarch recalls.

Trevor tells Clay that he was “on another level” at the time.

“Track was always my thing. You know, high school, All-American, college, All-American United States, Olympic Teams. I came as close as the Millrose Games and I pulled that hamstring,” Trevor says to his son. “Outside of that, I was just living vicariously through you.”

Trevor tells Clay he wanted him to get the “highest he could,” and that he had gotten there.

Unfortunately, Clay drops the ball at the last minute and decides not to marry his fiancé. However, AD was not on the same page as him and says “I do.” After Clay explains that he isn’t ready for marriage but wants to continue to be in a romantic relationship with AD and would work on himself and get into therapy, AD mouths, “What the fuck?”

AD’s mother escorts her away from the ceremony after a brief hug from Clay’s mother, and it is later revealed that they will not be continuing their relationship.

Viewers used the opportunity to properly dunk on Trevor.

“‘Track was always my thing Olympic teams I came as close as the Millrose games and I pulled that hamstring,’ TREVOR WHO ASKED. Get Clay’s 30 seconds of fame wanting trifling ass dad off my screen NEOW,” wrote one frustrated viewer.

“Not Clay’s dad using his screen time to talk about his All-American, Olympic team career falling short from a pulled hamstring,” penned another.

A third chimed in with, “I’m sorry but why’d Clay’s dad have to talk about being in the Olympics when it was the last convo before his son’s wedding? I knew right there.”

“I love how Clay’s dad found a way to brag about his past track accolades on #LoveIsBlind. It’s like watching a movie where a character gives a really bad exposition dump to a character who should already know the info being dumped,” tweeted a third.

Clay’s father makes another appearance towards the end of the episode, in what Decider dubbed a memorable moment from Love Is Blind Season 6

In the scene, Clay’s parents discuss how their rocky relationship has left Clay confused about his own romantic life. Clay’s mother talks about ending the cycle of generational trauma after Trevor mentions that he didn’t have a good role model in his father.

But when Trevor tries to sweeten the conversation by telling Rita that Clay will one day meet someone like her, she says, “Yeah, you met me but you weren’t good to me.”

Damn, Trevor just can’t catch a break. Maybe the reunion, which is set to see a few guest appearances, will give him another shot.

Love is Blind Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix. The reunion will air on March 13, 2024 at 9 p.m. ET.
