Deemed the “holiday dream team” by Hoda Kotb, musical duo Jimmy Fallon and Meghan Trainor appeared on The Today Show this morning to talk their new holiday song, “Wrap Me Up.”

The “All About That Bass” singer revealed that she’d been “trying to write a Christmas song for Jimmy Fallon for years now,” and recalled that she heard a “rumor” that he had more in the works,” per TODAY.com.

“They’re like, ‘He’s working up another one, he’s working up a whole Christmas album, it’s gonna be huge'” she shared, explaining that she eventually received a call from a friend who relayed the news that Fallon wanted to collaborate with her.

Fallon chimed in, telling Kotb and co-host Savannah Guthrie that he initially “sent Meghan a voicemail of what [he] thought the song could be,” with the title of “Wrap It Up.”

After playing the original voice memo featuring his acoustic vocals — which had Kotb and Guthrie chuckling — he quipped, “Let’s just say, I didn’t hear back from Meghan Trainor for three months.”

Trainor claimed that she “didn’t know how to respond.”

“I was like ok, I have to fix this, and then I have to respond like, ‘That was so good, Jimmy!'” she joked.

She said that she suggested a “doo-wop thing” instead. The two ultimately got on a call together, where Fallon remembered Trainor telling him that she “worked on a scratch too.”

“And her scratch is 1,000 times better,” he said. “It was basically the song.”

Fallon also unveiled the iconic voice memo on Live with Kelly and Mark this morning, telling Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos that he’s “working on an album” called “Holiday Seasons,” which he plans to release next year.

The song has garnered a ton of holiday hype following their performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Monday night (Nov. 27), as well.

However, Guthrie informed Trainor and Fallon this morning of some potential “competition,” as she brought up Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager‘s new “Christmas hit” entitled “A Carefree Christmas,” which they recorded along with their vocal coach, Cheryl Porter.
