Chris Evans is many things. He’s clearly a movie star. He’s been the sexiest man alive (he no longer is, now that’s McDreamy). He’s a husband. He is not, however, a guy who knows how to wear headphones; at least according to a behind-the-scenes video of the former Captain America star recording dialogue for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix.

In case you’re not familiar, Evans played the character of Lucas Lee, a self-involved movie star, in 2010’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, adapted from the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley. Like the large majority of the cast, he then reprised his role for the anime series (that would be Scott Pilgrim Takes Off) that recently launched on Netflix. Rather than just roll dialogue from the movie, Takes Off is — spoilers past this point — an entirely original story that departs from the tale told in the graphic novels and movie. Which of course meant getting everyone to record entirely new dialogue.

That includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who plays Scott Pilgrim’s (Michael Cera) love interest, Ramona Flowers, Alison Pill as the sardonic Kim Pine, and even bringing in Will Forte as an older version of Scott. In the fun two-minute clip, they all know how to wear headphones.

Chris Evans, however, does not. I mean, look at this:

Mr. Baptista, headphones go on your ears. You are wonderful at many things, but hearing through the top of your head is not one of them.

On the other hand, Mary Elizabeth Winstead does know how to wear headphones:

Alison Pill knows how to wear headphones:

Will Forte? Headphone-wearing champion of the world:

Let’s check in on Chris Evans again, see if he —

Nope, Chris Evans still doesn’t know how to wear headphones, though he has put his Boston Red Sox hat on the right way. Imagine him saying “Wait how do I wear headphones? Whatever” in a Lucas Lee voice in the above picture, because that’s what I’m imagining, too!

And look: I know that when you record dialogue, you sometimes keep one ear free to hear direction. That’s fine. That’s cool! But those headphones are hanging onto Evans’ head for dear life harder than that bicep/helicopter scene in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. You know the one.

Anyway, Chris Evans may conclusively not know how to wear headphones, but he is still one of the absolute standouts in the animated series. You can check out the behind-the-scenes footage above – but beware spoilers! Or, you know. Whatever.
