Leave Britney alone! After Sherri Shepherd called Britney Spears “crazy” on Wednesday night’s (Oct. 18) episode of Watch What Happens Live, viewers blasted the talk show host for her “super gross” dig at the singer, who has publicly struggled for years with her mental health.

The controversial moment came during a game of “Do Sherri and Issa Give a Damn?” when host Andy Cohen asked guests Shepherd and Issa Rae if they cared about Spears’ upcoming memoir, The Woman in Me.

“I do. She has been dropping a lot of tea. She just said that her and Justin [Timberlake] — he cheated on her with another celebrity,” Rae said, to which Shepherd asked, “Another Mouseketeer?”

However, the Sherri host wasn’t as excited for the bombshell tell-all.

“Not really, ’cause how many chapters are you gonna have — crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy and crazy,” she told Cohen, before unapologetically adding, “I said it.”

Like Rae, viewers were left “shocked” by Shepherd’s comment. In fact, her own fan subreddit reportedly shut down after the episode aired, writing, “We do not support Sherri any longer after her nasty comments towards Britney Spears and calling her ‘crazy’ and making fun of her on WWHL. No members will be accepted and this group is no longer active. We stand with Britney Spears and survivors of abuse.”

The former View co-host received similar backlash on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“I’ve actually never liked Sherri Shepherd and always thought she had a very nasty spirit, so her being unsympathetic to Britney’s struggles is unsurprising, but no less disappointing,” one wrote, while another added, “How dare Sherri disrespect Britney like that!!!!!! Just shameful.”

A third person said, “Ready for that public apology whenever you are @sherrieshepherd shame on you for not supporting another woman who has clearly been through A LOT more than you’ll ever comprehend or understand.”

Someone else fumed, “This is very vile and an ugly word to use about Britney. I’m glad she’s enjoying life and is unapologetic about it. She deserves the world,” before a fifth person chimed in, “Sherri is disgusting! She did that on purpose! Wendy Williams WANNABE.”

“Sherri Shepherd is the worst!” another critic declared. “Making fun of anyone with mental health problems should shut down her show. She knows what it’s like to be made fun of so she should know better. Queue the obligatory apology.”

Decider has reached out to reps for Shepherd, but did not hear back by time of publication.
