The Wheel of Time Season 2 finale ends on an incendiary high note that leaves fans wanting more. Our heroes have all reunited, the first major villain has been knocked down, and a new threat — well, actually six threats — have been unleashed on the world. Prime Video‘s TV adaptation of Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time has finally hit its stride…but will Amazon continue on with the expensive fantasy series? Will there be a Wheel of Time Season 3 on Prime Video? We have good news and some bad news…

The Wheel of Time on Prime Video is based on the 14+ book series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson. The series takes place in a future age where women born with the ability to channel a magical force known as the One Power are given the opportunity to hone their talents and become part of the powerful Aes Sedai. Men who can channel are hunted down and “gentled,” lest they succumb to homicidal madness thanks to the One Power. However there is one male channeler who is prophesied to save the world — or damn it — in an epic battle with the Dark One. He is the Dragon Reborn, aka Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), and The Wheel of Time charts his rise to power alongside his equally heroic friends.

The Wheel of Time Season 1 ended with the revelation that Rand was indeed the Dragon Reborn. It also ended with the Dark One’s most devoted servant, Ishamael (Fares Fares), let loose upon the world. In The Wheel of Time Season 2, Ishamael ramps up the danger by also letting out another one of the Forsaken out: Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe).

While The Wheel of Time Season 2 ends with Rand defeating Ishamael, it also ends with the reveal that Ishamael released the six remaining Forsaken from their cuendillar-sealed prisons. The first one we meet? Moghedien (Laia Costa).

“Moghedien becomes one of the biggest and most important Forsaken in the book that immediately follows this one. So we really wanted her to be the first insight that you get to this world of Forsaken,” Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins told Decider earlier this week. “We wanted someone who came in and in one scene made you go, ‘Oh my God, what is going to happen in Season 3 now that all of these people are out?'”

So, yeah, expect Moghedien and the other Forsaken to make life difficult for Rand, Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), Lan (Daniel Henney), Nynaeve (Zoë Robins), Egwene (Madeleine Madden), Mat (Dónal Finn), Perrin (Marcus Rutherford), Elayne (Ceara Coveney), Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), and the rest of their allies next season. But what…is there even going to be a third season of The Wheel of Time? Here’s everything we know so far about The Wheel of Time Season 3…

Will There Be a Wheel of Time Season 3 on Prime Video?

Yes, there will definitely be a Wheel of Time Season 3 on Prime Video. Amazon renewed the hit fantasy series for a third season in July 2022. When Decider spoke with The Wheel of Time cast ahead of the SAG-AFTRA strikes, they were in production on Season 3. Because it’s a foreign-based production, it seems that shooting on The Wheel of Time Season 3 continued despite the strike (a la House of the Dragon Season 2). At least, it certainly looks like the cast has continued to work based on recent social media posts…

When Will The Wheel of Time Season 3 Premiere on Prime Video?

If the good news is that The Wheel of Time Season 3 is happening, the bad news is fans still have to wait a while. New seasons of The Wheel of Time typically premiere two years after principal photography. Meaning that we can expect The Wheel of Time Season 3 to premiere on Prime Video in 2025.

What Robert Jordan Books Will The Wheel of Time Season 3 Cover?

Book readers already know that Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time generally uses the source material as a framework for the series. Seasons 1 and 2 essentially told the stories of the first two books, while constantly weaving in details and plot points from throughout the whole 14+ book series.

However, The Wheel of Time Season 2 also specifically tackled developments from Book 3. Showrunner Rafe Judkins revealed on social media that this is because Books 2 & 3 tell similiar stories. Also Season 3 will tell the story of Book 4, The Shadow Rising.

When Decider spoke with Judkins about The Wheel of Time Season 2 finale, we asked if there was a reason why Elayne gets to join the Emond’s Field Five at the top of the tower in Falme, but not another key character from the books, Aviendha. Rand and Elayne get to meet, but neither of them yet know Aviendha. Why?

“Well, we talked about Aviendha’s character in this moment. The important thing for her is seeing the proclamation of Rand and what he is and what that drives for her into the next season,” Judkins said. “But, you know, I think there’s a good chance that those characters do all three meet in the future.”

Here’s hoping early on in The Wheel of Time Season 3.
