October is the perfect time to watch a few horror classics. Later this month, a new documentary about the controversial immersive horror experience known as McKamey Manor, Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House, will debut on Hulu. “Russ McKamey is the creator of the world’s ‘most extreme haunted house,'” the synopsis of the film states. “He is also a manipulative abuser, according to three people who realize the horror is never over once you decide to enter the Manor.”

Yes! McKamey Manor was the subject of the season finale of Netflix’s 2018 docuseries Dark Tourist.

Hosted by New Zealand journalist (and Short Poppies co-star) David Farrier, the eight-episode series visited macabre tourism spots from around the globe. The final episode focused on Farrier speaking with a former pen pal of Charles Manson, chatting with doomsday preppers, and visiting McKamey Manor.

“If a dark tourist wants the most extreme weekend ever, then Russ McKamey is the man to give it to them,” Farrier said while introducing the segment. “But is he a showman or a psychopath? And why would anyone want to do this?”
