‘Sherri’ and ‘The Jennifer Hudson Show’ Both Returning This Month Despite WGA Strikes

News of daytime talk shows returning to production is more than just talk. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sherri and The Jennifer Hudson Show are slated to return for their sophomore seasons on Monday, Sept. 18, while The Talk will reportedly return that same day for Season 14, despite the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

When she returns for a new season, host Sherri Shepherd will be hosting guests Wayne Brady, Keke Palmer, Vanna White, and more, according to a Sherri press release. However, guests appearing on the show that are members of SAG-AFTRA are prohibited from promoting their struck work.

Sherri doesn’t use WGA writers, resembling talk shows like Live with Kelly and Mark and The Tamron Hall Show. While Live has been continuously filming through the strike, Tamron Hall just began Season 5 on Sept. 5.

The Jennifer Hudson Show will begin Season 2 without any WGA writers, but will bring them back once a new contract is reached, per Entertainment Weekly. According to THR, the show has been promoting its upcoming season with clips from Season 1, which finished airing in May.

CBS’ The Talk, which is structured as a panel show like The View, allegedly has plans for a premiere on Sept. 18, per sources that spoke to THR. CBS declined to comment.

According to weekly press releases, the show has been airing previously recorded episodes during its usual air time, weekdays at 2 p.m. ET.

The Drew Barrymore Show made headlines yesterday (Sept. 11) after it returned to taping without its writers. Two individuals wearing WGA pins were reportedly kicked out of the taping, as picketers surrounded the studio due to the show being “in violation of WGA strike rules.”

Prior to the taping, Barrymore shared an Instagram post defending her show’s return, telling fans that she “own[s] this choice.”

“We are in compliance with not discussing or promoting film and television that is struck of any kind,” she wrote, adding that they “launched live in a global pandemic” and that the “show was built for sensitive times and has only functioned through what the real world is going through in real time.”

Following its Sept. 18 Season 2 premiere, Sherri will air weekdays at 10 a.m. ET. Check your local listings here. The Tamron Hall Show airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET. For local listings, click here.
